Week of September 6-9, 2016
Hello Corinth Families!

It was great to see you all at Back to School Night this past week. Hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend, and the kiddos enjoy this extra-short week!

Your to-do list for this week:

*Fall Fest - order your wrist bands and meal vouchers (due September 16), and volunteer.
*Deadline for updating the directory to make the print version is September 16th.

Amy McCarthy
PTA President
We are still looking for some volunteers on our PTA Committees. If you are interested in helping with the Yearbook, with an eye to succeed the role of Chair, or if you can be the Chair of the Reflections committee (a PTA-sponsored student competition. This year's theme is "What is your Story?" Click here for more information), email Amy McCarthy

Please update the directory! Remember you can choose what information to include, even if it is just your child's teacher and/or an email contact. We will be printing a hard copy of the directory this month, for those who ordered it. The deadline to update your information is Friday, September 16 to make the printed directory. Also, if you ordered the directory/joined PTA and chose to pay by check, please remember to send that in to the office. If you have any questions or problems, contact Scott William.

New this year! Pay for your meal and wristband order online HERE!
Meal vouchers and wristbands will be sent home in your child’s backpack before Fall Fest.

We NEED your help to make this a fabulous night for all our kids. The fall fest is a parent-run event. We'd like to see each family who has a child attending the fall fest volunteer for at least one shift. Sign up HERE.

Volunteers are needed for the 6:15-7:15 and 7:15-8:15 shifts.

In addition, there will be a drawing for a $50 Visa gift card for one lucky volunteer from the last shift and clean up crew!

The PTA is able to do a LOT because of your generous donations of both time and money. Among such things as classroom grants, purchasing yearbooks for all the children, subsidizing field trips, maintenance on our garden, new books for the library, and teacher appreciation events, we undertake the major funding projects of providing an additional aide in the classroom focused on math, a Spanish program, and new this year -- a Maker's Space. Look in this section weekly for highlights on some of these projects. This week, find information below about our Spanish Program.

La Señora Martha Martin is from El Tigre, Venezuela. After high school, she attended Centro De Estudios Universitarios in Monterrey Mexico and obtained her Bachelor’s degree of science in psychology. Shortly after graduation she worked as an instructor of interpersonal communication and philosophy at Colegio Labastida in Monterrey Mexico before returning to Venezuela. In Venezuela, she continued her career in education and taught elementary age curriculum at private and public schools. She moved to Kansas City in 2005 with her husband, and has worked at several non-profit organizations as a social worker and interventionist. Around the beginning of 2011, she realized how much she missed the classroom and decided to make a return to teaching and began working full time as a Spanish teacher at a Montessori school in Missouri before joining us here at Corinth elementary. She is now starting her 5th year as the Spanish teacher.

See here for more information on the Spanish curriculum from the Young Spanish August newsletter!

From the ART room

Corinth is a member of, an online student art museum. Artsonia manages school art galleries in a safe and educational manner, developing students’ pride and self-esteem and involving parents and relatives in students arts education. We need your permission to include your child’s artwork on our schools web gallery on Artsonia. Artsonia should have emailed you a permission link, if not, please go here.

Last year was Corinth's first year as a member, I received several compliments on Artsonia as a way to share your student’s work with family and friends. There is the option to purchase items with your child’s artwork on it (mugs, shirts, key chains . . .) but there is NO need to purchase anything, it is a free web site. Many fans; however, did purchase postcards to send to the artist and the kids were excited to tell me when they got a post card with their art work on it. Corinth art room does receive a portion of anything purchased thru Artsonia. Check out the site, there are parental controls that limit who can see posted artwork.

If you have questions, please feel free to email Kim Bogart, Corinth art teacher.

Thank you to you! Thank you for coming to Back to School Night. Thank you for joining PTA. Thank you for volunteering your time and talents to the school. Thank you for getting involved. Corinth is a very special community in large part because of the effort of our families!

Keep in mind that many generous companies offer a matching gift/donation program that either match dollar for dollar or a % of the total if the donation is to a 501(c)(3) organization and that organization can provide a receipt. Our Corinth PTA qualifies, and we can provide a receipt for you! Please consider taking advantage of these programs and increase the impact of your donations to the Corinth PTA. To request a receipt or ask questions, contact Sarah Casey.
