Is your child interested in running? Corinth will be kicking off our fall running club for all grades starting this week! Join us each Tuesday immediately after school for 6 weeks (September 20 - October 25). We'll meet in the gym, get a few stretches in, and then head to the track to do some laps. Please send your child with tennis shoes & a water bottle. Each participating child must have a permission slip, which can be downloaded here. We look forward to running with you! Any questions, please contact Betsy Ballard.

We look forward to receiving the essay and poetry entries from our 5th and 6th graders!
Entries are due in the school office by Friday, October 7th.
Students can participate by submitting a poem and/or an essay related to the theme. (They are not limited to choosing a category if they would like to do both).
Please look out for the entry forms in your child’s backpack so they can get started on this annual fun project!
We look forward to reading the inspirational messages from our talented Dragons!
Winning entries will be announced in late October/early November and have the chance to compete at the District and State Levels.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact Jennifer Daniels by email or phone: (617) 459-7938.
Box Tops!
It's time to send in your Box Tops again!! I know many of you may ignore this information believing it to be too much trouble or just too confusing. But, did you know that last year we earned close to $1000 for our school?! Just imagine, if only 20 more families began collecting and donating box tops we could surely reach and exceed our goal!! It's easy to do and really does make a difference. If you haven't collected before, think about starting today!
NEW deadline for submission is October 19. The top 2 classes with the most Box Tops submitted will win a class party to celebrate a job well done!

Collecting Box Tops is an easy way to help your school and your child(ren) win a class party. Encourage grandparents and other family members to help!
Send collected Box Tops to school with your child anytime on or before September 23. Please be sure to label them with your child's teacher and grade.
Thank you so much for all of your help!

1. Download the WunderStation app from iTunes or the App Store here

2. Open the WunderStation app.

3. Click on “Add some stations.”

4. Using the search field (upper left), and add the Corinth MakerSpace Personal Weather Station (PWS) using the ID number KKSSHAWN44.

5. For fun, click on the map symbol (upper right) and the “+” to add the Rockhurst High School PWS using ID number KMOKANSA143, or any other local PWS of your choosing.

google eyes, wax paper, yarn, buttons, toilet paper tubes, plastic water bottles, egg cartons, craft supply odds and ends, pom poms, markers

Any questions about the Maker's Space, please contact Todd Harris

CORINTH BENEFIT AUCTION

New this year for the Corinth Benefit Auction are silent auction grade baskets! Each grade has a theme and parents are encouraged to bring an item to the fall parent parties. Please note, this does not replace the $125 suggested donation for the parent party. The easy thing about these baskets and your donations are that you can donate a really simple item and collectively they’ll add up to a really great package at the March 4, 2017 event!

The Donation Committee will accept any donation, but here are some simple ideas of what you can contribute to your child’s grade basket{s}. Feel free to drop it off at the parent party, or in the office with a note {“ auction – grade”}. Contact Trisha Sims or Jenn Miller with questions.

PTA Legislative Update:
Did you know that the Kansas PTA, the Shawnee Mission Area Council PTA (SMAC) and our Corinth PTA all track local, state and federal legislation. Keep an eye peeled for more information on a Corinth legislative forum in November. If you want to stay informed, please consider tracking updates from Kansas PTA and SMAC (on facebook). Below is the latest SMAC legislative update:

The next legislative session doesn't start until January, but the August 2nd primary already guaranteed that we'll have some new faces in Topeka.
All 125 House and 40 Senate seats are up for renewal this election cycle. We encourage you to vote in the general election November 8th, and be an informed voter!
Over the summer, Kansas PTA published vote counts on education and budget policy. The Johnson County profiles can be accessed here.
There will also be a hearing on the adequacy portion of the Gannon school funding case at the Kansas Supreme Court on September 21st. A new school funding formula will be drafted by the legislature in the 2017 session.

As always, please reach out to either me
Devin Wilson smacleg1@smac-pta.org or
Mary Sinclair smacleg2@smac-pta.org for legislative questions or concerns. #TeamPTA

September Sonic Staff Appreciation

The Staff Appreciation Committee was "soda-lighted" to show our staff how much we appreciate them this past week. Mr. Lowe hand delivered the staff's favorite Sonic drink on Thursday, Sept. 15 for the staff to enjoy! A special thanks to Amy Thurston for coordinating and Sonic for donating all of the drinks - it's a staff favorite for sure!
DID YOU KNOW?
LUNCHES
Even though lunches on the lawn are over this week, you (or grandparent, etc.) are still always welcome to come in and have lunch with your kiddo! Enter (and park) on the north side, come sign in at the office, go to the cafeteria during your child's regular lunch period, and you can sit at a separate table within the cafeteria with your child (and up to one friend). It is a great opportunity to see what the cafeteria is like and to spend some special time with your child.
