Your Corinth PTA Newsletter
Week of September 14-18, 2015
Hello Corinth Families!

This is a busy week! Fall Fest is this Friday, and we have lots to do to get ready for it.

If you would like to pre-order your wristbands and food, please return the yellow forms by Monday (tomorrow). And, in order for this to be another successful carnival, we ask all families to volunteer for a shift if your child is attending the carnival, and to donate prizes (see below for details).

Don't forget to have your Dragon dress up for Fall Fest Spirit Week. (You, of course, are welcome to do so, too.)
  • Monday 9/21: western wear day
  • Tuesday 9/22: crazy hair day
  • Wednesday 9/23: pajama day
  • Thursday 9/24: crazy socks day
  • Friday 9/25: Corinth spirit wear day [Spirit Wear orders will be delivered early this week!]

This is one of Corinth's favorite events, and we are looking forward to seeing y'all at the Corinth Corral on Friday!

Erin Herbst
PTA President

2. Volunteer for Fall Fest

1. Volunteer for a Shift.

VOLUNTEER SHORTAGE!!!!: Fall Fest is a success because of our volunteers. Please donate your time, baked good and candy to make this year another “best ever!!”

The Corinth Fall Fest is this Friday! This is a favorite event for all of the Corinth students, alumni and their siblings. Unfortunately, we still have many open volunteer spots needed to run this amazing event. It is required that at least one parent of any child attending sign up to volunteer for a one hour shift. Many games and rides will be cut if we do not have volunteers to run this event.

Please ensure your shift is saved in the Sign-Up Genius and if you have not already signed up please do so to ensure that this is the same great event as it has been in years past.

Please SIGN UP HERE to volunteer for a shift.

**3rd Shift workers will get a chance to win a $50 prize!!!

2. Provide Prizes for the Games

- K-4th Grade Families: please bring a small cake, cupcakes or cookies for the cake walk. Cupcakes & cookies should be packaged in groups of 6.

- 5th-6th Grade Families: please bring a bag of individually wrapped candies for prizes.

Please turn prizes into the office by the morning of Friday, Sept. 25th.

For Fall Fest Volunteer questions, contact: Mel Wolf or Katie Saylor
3. Parents of 4th Graders: Attend Lunch on the Lawn

Corinth Community,

I am very excited to participate in my first lunch on the lawn. In the event of rain or wet ground conditions, we will move the event into the gym. Don’t forget to bring a blanket! For lunch on the lawn, we will have both the north and south entrances open for visitors and family. A sign in sheet will be located in the lobby with visitor stickers (checking into the office will not be required for lunch on the lawn).

Thank you and please call the office with any questions!

Chris Lowe

4TH GRADE: Tuesday, 11:50 - 12:15

5th and 6th students,
Are you interested in making a difference at Corinth and in the Kansas City community? If so, come join us for Youth in Action! We will be helping many charitable organizations throughout the year and will have fun doing it. This is your chance to make our community a little bit better!

For more information and to sign up, see the YIA FLYER.

Stop by our table on Tuesday (9/22) during your lunch time to learn more.

Contact: Dave Chaffee or Kelly Green

This year, Mr. Lowe is challenging us to reach a goal of 100 walkers/bikers each Wednesday! If we reach this goal, the class with the highest # walkers/bikers will get an extra recess and kickball game with Mr. Lowe! Also, every student who walks or bikes to school on those Wednesdays will get a sticker and be entered in a drawing for a cool prize!

Contact: Katherine Reeves, or Kelly Cannova

*Note corrected dates: 9/23, 9/30, 10/7, 10/14

6. PARENTS of 5th Graders: Attend Annual Parent Party on Saturday
These fun, casual, adult-only events, are a great way to connect with parents in your child's grade, and are held in conjunction with our annual fundraising.

We are raising funds for the PTA's major financial initiatives (Spanish Program and Math Aide). The suggested donation is $125/child. Of course, donations of all sizes are sincerely appreciated and anonymous. We are grateful for what ever amount your budget allows. Don't forget that this is a tax-deductible donation, and to find out if your employer will match your donation.

If you prefer to pay by check, please place your check in the envelope included with your Parent Party invitation, and bring to the party, or deliver it to the school office.

*Please consider adding 3% to your donation to help us cover the costs associated with accepting credit card payments. Suggested donation would be $128.75/child.

Here are some quotes from Teachers about the PTA-funded full time Math Aide, Amy Bayles:

"With a few weeks under our belts, I am very thankful that we have a math aide. I really think it will help all students, but especially those that need extra help. Being able to give one-to-one attention is wonderful. Small group instruction can be very beneficial, also. Now, that we have our MAP scores, it is easier to identify which students need help with certain skills."

"We love that we have extra math support and a set time schedule that we can all count on. "

"The math aide lowers our adult (teacher) to pupil ratio. More kids are able to get the help that they need! We love it!"

THANK YOU to our Volunteers!
  • 1st Grade Parent Party Hosts: Leanne & Brett Beezley, Krisanne & Mike Bradley, Jennifer & Steve Beardslee, Lindsay & Seth Peattie, Betsy & Jake Ballard
  • Celebrating our Super Sonic Staff!
Last Monday, the Staff Appreciation Committee celebrated our super staff by bringing them their Sonic drink of choice! A huge thank you to Mr. Lowe for personally hand delivering each drink to the teachers and staff!...what a fun way to let them know how much we appreciate them! Thank you also to Sonic for donating the drinks and Amy Thurston for coordinating.

From 9/26 to 10/2, 20% of your order can go right back to Corinth! CLICK HERE FOR SPECIFIC ORDERING DETAILS.
