The Dragon Digest

Your Corinth PTA Newsletter
Week of October 5 - 9, 2015
Hello Corinth Families!

Happy October! It's a short week for the kids (1/2 day Thursday; no school Friday) as we end the first quarter.

Last week the District sent all famlies an email with some important changes to the school calendar. You can find the updated calendar on the SMSD.org website, and the Corinth Calendar button on this email.

Your child brought home information on two different contests in which your children can participate. Fifth and Sixth Graders can enter the Citizenship Contest (Blue Flyer), and all grades can enter the Reflections Contest (Red Flyer). Entries for the Citizenship Contest are due soon (October 16), and for the Reflections Contest (December 11). These optional contests are a fun way to participate in the broader community.

Have a great week, and a fun long weekend!

PTA President

TO DO THIS WEEK:
1. WALK OR BIKE TO SCHOOL ON WEDNESDAY

We have met and exceeded Mr. Lowe's Walking Wednesday challenge for the last two weeks. We had 267 students participate last week. This week, he's challenging us to have 300 walkers or bikers on Wednesday!

If we reach this new goal, the class with the highest number of walkers/bikers will get an extra recess and kickball game with Mr. Lowe! Also, every student who walks or bikes to school on those Wednesdays will get a sticker and be entered in a drawing for a cool prize!

2. Bring In a Jar of Peanut Butter for Harvesters

It’s peanut butter jelly time.
In order to help Harvesters, Student Council is collecting peanut butter for the annual Prairie Village Peanut Butter Drive. Please bring in a tub of peanut butter and drop it off in one of the two bins in the front hallway. Thanks for your support!

3. Enjoy your 3 1/2 day weekend!

See you back at school on Monday.

There's Still Time to:
Make your Donation to the PTA
In conjunction with the grade-level Parent Parties, we are raising funds for the PTA's major financial initiatives (Spanish Program and Math Aide). The suggested donation is $125/child. Of course, donations of all sizes are sincerely appreciated and anonymous. We are grateful for what ever amount your budget allows. Don't forget that this is a tax-deductible donation, and to find out if your employer will match your donation.

If you prefer to pay by check, please place your check in the envelope included with your Parent Party invitation, and bring to the party, or deliver it to the school office.

*Please consider adding 3% to your donation to help us cover the costs associated with accepting credit card payments. Suggested donation would be $128.75/child.

PTA NEWS:

The Corinth PTA is pleased to announce the 2015 Citizenship Contest.

This year’s theme is “I Can Be a Hero in My Community by…”.

We look forward to receiving the essay and poetry entries from our 5th and 6th graders as the quality and effort put into past entries has been excellent!

Entries are due in the school office by Friday, October 16th, and students can participate by submitting a poem and/or an essay related to the theme. (They are not limited to choosing a category if they would like to do both).

Please look out for the entry forms in your child’s backpack so they can get started on this annual fun project!

We look forward to reading the inspirational messages from our talented Dragons! Winning entries will be announced in late October/early November and have the chance to compete at the District and State Levels.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me by email, or phone: 816-694-0543(cell) or 913-385-0391(home).
