 Popular Remodel and Design Trends

Curvy Home Features and Furniture

It might start to feel a bit like the 1970's this year if designer predictions hold true. Many experts are calling for an upsurge in curved spaces, from walls and doorways to kitchen islands.

Curved and rounded furniture is another part of this trend towards comfort and natural lines.

Upgraded Mudrooms and Laundry Rooms

These traditionally utilitarian rooms are finally coming into their own. More homeowners are requesting feel-good upgrades such as mood lighting, backsplashes, and upscale tile, as well as functional perks such as a workstation for washing dog paws.

Wall Sconces and Hidden Lighting

Downlighting is giving way to softer lighting styles such as wall sconces and hidden lighting. Pendants are still popular, but homeowners are paying more attention to being able to adjust a room's lighting to various moods and activities. LED lighting is becoming the norm.

Spa-Like Bathrooms

The "bathroom as sanctuary" trend is going strong. Designers are getting more requests for a spa-like experience, including luxurious two-person walk-in showers with dual shower heads, dimmable lighting, and smart wiring for music and video. Steam showers with seats for relaxing are also gaining ground.

Wood Cabinets (Yes, They're Back)

White is still a very common color scheme for kitchens, but in 2023 we can expect to see the return of wood as a popular choice for some cabinetry. Blue is expected to remain in style as a contrast color, with hues trending more towards an ocean-based blue-green.

Quartz Countertops

Quartz countertops have been winning the countertop wars for a long time. (It's hard to beat a material that's so durable and available in such a huge variety of styles.)

Some designers are calling for more vibrant colors and patterns in countertops this year, which could potentially give a bit of an edge back to granite, but for now quartz still leads the pack.

Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring

Vinyl flooring has come a long way in the last ten years. While still not as high grade as the hardwood it often resembles, it is increasingly popular due to its upgraded appearance and high durability.

For homeowners looking for flooring that stands up to scampering pets, dropped objects, and water spills, click-lock luxury vinyl plank can be a great solution that's relatively easy to install without professional help.

Warmer Color Schemes

After years of all-white kitchens and greige living rooms, last year's trend towards warmer colors continues to gain ground. In 2023 we can expect to see more hues derived from natural elements, such as wood, sand, and the ocean.

Water and Energy-Saving Features

Features such as LED lighting, dual-flush toilets, and drought-friendly landscaping are becoming standard, and anything that saves energy or water is likely to add value. Here's a link to some decorative rain barrel options.

Flex Rooms and Offices

It's always convenient to have a separate space for work, live-in parents, or adult children who may have returned to the roost. Creating a separate space where people can work and play independently adds value and functionality to any home.

Inviting Outdoor Living Spaces

An outdoor living area can add enormous value by providing an entertaining and relaxation space that usually makes the adjoining indoor rooms feel larger as well.
