Alumni & Friends Update
      May 1, 2012
Leadership Denver '13 Applications Due June 4
LD 11
LD Class of 2011

For more than 38 years, the Leadership Foundation's flagship program, Leadership Denver, has been giving Colorado's civically-minded leaders the knowledge and connections needed to guide the state's future. Over an 11-month period, 55 representatives from the public, private and nonprofit sectors meet monthly to discuss Colorado's challenges and issues, and they are exposed to an interactive curriculum that provides an insider's perspective on subjects such as economic development, education, healthcare, crime and justice, politics, and poverty.

Leadership Denver will...
Broaden, deepen and accelerate your engagement in the community.
Help you give back more intentionally in your volunteer life.
Connect you with local leaders who also want to make an impact
Expand your sphere of influence.

Leadership Denver alumni include prominent Coloradoans such as: Governor Bill Ritter, Governor Bill Owens, Mayor Wellington Webb, Mayor Michael Hancock, Elbra Wedgeworth, Joe Blake, Rob Cohen, Phil Washington, Anne Warhover, and Christine Benero.

We hope Leadership Denver alumni, as well as alumni of the Leadership Foundation's other programs, will help identify colleagues and friends who might be interested in applying. The application can be accessed here. Applications are due Monday, June 4, 2012. For more information, please contact Denise King.

Colorado in Context Launches This Summer

Stay tuned for the Leadership Foundation’s latest initiative, Colorado in Context, launching this summer.

Colorado in Context, a community indicators project, will raise awareness and benchmark progress over time on key regional issues (health, transportation, education, economic vitality and civic engagement) for the metro Denver region. This multi-year project will provide a framework for communicating and measuring improvements on critical issues facing our community including educational achievement gaps, health trends, asset poverty rates and transportation infrastructure needs.

Colorado in Context will also extend the Leadership Foundation’s reach and influence into the community, through you, our program alumni. We’ll be preparing an alumni speakers bureau to carry the message of Colorado in Context into diverse community networks sharing compelling indicators to inform public policy and community-based decision makers. In addition to promoting key issue trends, we’re working with community partners to identify high-impact civic engagement opportunities to mobilize community support in addressing these issues. We not only want to shine a light on important regional concerns but catalyze community ownership and involvement in working toward solutions.

We were astounded by the volume of responses to the stakeholder survey distributed in March, a true testament to the active passion for improving our community among our program participants and alumni. Your thoughtful assessment of the region’s key issues have helped to guide the selection of the indicators we’ll be tracking as well as the questions included in our public opinion poll.

Special thanks to Molson Coors and Xcel Energy for their funding support and Metro State College of Denver for their in-kind service donation.

The Leadership Foundation will be reaching out to invite your participation and support of Colorado in Context in a variety of ways in the next few months. We look forward to your involvement.
