Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose: “Women Deacons? A Dialogue”
The Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose are hosting an event, “Women Deacons? A Dialogue,” at their Motherhouse in Fremont, CA on Saturday, April 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event, sponsored by Center for Education and Spirituality (CES), will be presented by Bishop Randolph Calvo, with input from Sister Gloria Marie Jones, O.P. and Sister Mary Peter Traviss, O.P.

After 25 years since Disney’s animated film Beauty and the Beast made its debut, the new Beauty and the Beast was remade as a live action film.
Heartland Center for Spirituality Summer Retreat 2017
The Heartland Center for Spirituality, a ministry of the Dominican Sisters of Peace, will have their summer retreat, “Fresh from the 800th Jubilee: Future Fruit in Dominican Life,” from June 11 to June 16, 2017. The retreat will be presented by Fr. Ed Ruane, O.P. and Sr. Carla Mae Streeter, O.P.

On March 31, 2017, Caldwell Dominican Sister de Montfort Kinchellagh, O.P. received the Excellence in Social Justice Advocacy award at Caldwell University’s annual Veritas awards.
Dominican Sisters of Springfield: Dominican Sister from Iraq Speaks of Experience with Refugees
The Daily Eastern News reported on a panel Iraqi Dominican Sister Habiba Bihnam spoke at on March 29 about “the time she spent helping refugees after bombings in northern Iraq in 2014.” Sister Habiba is currently living and working in Springfield until September.
Dominican Sister of Springfield M. Dorothea Sondgeroth, O.P. Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award
Dominican Sister M. Dorothea Sondgeroth, O.P., “has been named a 2017 recipient of the Catholic Health Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award for her ministry at St. Dominic Health Services, Jackson, Miss. The award is given to a leader in health ministry who has inspired and mentored many others and whose leadership extends past the Catholic health ministry to influence and impact the local community and beyond.”
Dominican Sisters of Adrian: ‘Former Grand Rapids Mayor Speaks on Sustainability in Local Communities’
On March 15 George Heartwell, former Mayor of Grand Rapids, Michigan, spoke to “residents and leaders of Adrian about ways to build a resilient, sustainable community in light of the ramifications of global climate change.” In his discussion, “Mr. Heartwell emphasized that global climate change is ‘the most urgent and pressing problem facing humankind today.’”
