Dominican Young Adults Gather in Toulouse for Meeting of International Dominican Youth Movement
From July 16-21, 2016, Dominican Young Adults, friars, sisters and laity from all over gathered for the 12th International Meeting in Toulouse, France. The theme for this year’s meeting was “Young Dominicans sent to preach the Gospel.”
Dominican Sisters March for a Clean Energy Revolution
On July 24, 2016, in Philadelphia, PA, the March for a Clean Energy Revolution was held. "Americans Against Fracking and Pennsylvanians Against Fracking convened the March for Clean Energy, which was endorsed by more than 900 faith, labor, environmental, indigenous, health, political, justice and student organizations from all 50 states, including the Dominican Sisters of Amityville, Blauvelt, Caldwell, Hope, Maryknoll and Sparkill.”
Dominican Institute for the Arts Holds 19th Annual Gathering
Racine, WI (July 26, 2016) – From July 26-31, the Dominican Institute for the Arts (DIA) held its 19th annual gathering at the Siena Retreat Center, Racine, Wisconsin. At the assembly, the Spirit of the DIA Award was presented to Barbara Kukala, O.P. and the Fra Angelico Award was presented to Elizabeth Slenker, O.P. Included at the gathering was the election of three new board members for the DIA board.
Dominican Sister of Sparkill, Sr. Elizabeth Slenker, O.P., Awarded Dominican Institute for the Arts Fra Angelico Award
During the Dominican Institute for the Arts (DIA) 19th Annual gathering from July 26-31, 2016, Sr. Elizabeth Slenker, O.P. was presented the Fra Angelico Award. The award is given to “members who exemplify the dedication of famous Dominican Friar and artist, Fra Angelico, to furthering the Holy Preaching through art.”
‘Adrian Dominican Sisters to Dedicate Reflective Garden’
The Adrian Dominican Sisters will hold a dedication ceremony on Thursday, August 25, of the Adrian Dominican Sisters’ Dominican Life Center (DLC) Reflective Garden. The Reflective Garden “is designed as a safe and quiet place for retired Adrian Dominican Sisters to enjoy the outdoors.”

Faith and Film: Gleason
Gleason is a moving documentary about Steve Gleason, New Orleans Saints football player who retired in 2009. Steve Gleason received the diagnosis of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) in 2011, and six weeks after the diagnosis, Gleason learned he was going to be a father. The film was created for Gleason to “record his thoughts to a video camera, so that his child would have something to remember him by.”
