Province of St. Martin de Porres – Dominicans Meet Pope Francis during the Dominican General Chapter
On August 4, 2016 at the conclusion of the General Chapter of Bologna, all those gathered for the Dominican General Chapter boarded a train from Bologna to Rome and met Pope Francis, who gave his blessings and congratulations on the 800th Anniversary of the Dominican Order.
‘Adrian Dominican Sisters Receive Sister Katherine Frazier into Novitiate’
On August 8, 2016, the Adrian Dominican Sisters formally received Sister Katherine Frazier as a novice. Sister Katherine entered the discernment process with the Adrian Dominican Sisters as a pre-candidate two years ago and formally became a candidate last year on August 8, 2015.
New Director of Racine Dominicans’ Eco-Justice Center Settling In To Her New Role
On July 23, 2016, Sister Rejane Cytacki took over as the new executive director for the Racine Dominicans’ Eco-Justice Center. Sister Rejane is a member of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, Kansas. She has a master’s degree in earth literacy and has been an environmental educator for over 10 years.
Dominican Sisters of Sparkill Celebrates the Feast of St. Dominic and Associates’ Commitments
On August 7, 2016, the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill celebrated St. Dominic’s Feast Day and held a special ceremony for the Associates. The gathering welcomed new Associate, Marisa Ganey, to the community; and Associate Kathryne Hof recommitted to the community for 5 years.
Dominican Sisters of Sparkill – ‘Celebrating a 105-Year Relationship in St. Louis’
On Sunday, July 24, the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill were honored by Epiphany of Our Lord Parish in St. Louis, MO for their 105 years of service to the parish and school. The celebration was bittersweet because this August, Epiphany Convent closed, ending the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill’s long presence at the parish.
Dominican Sister of Hope, Mary Ellen Wisner, O.P.’s Art Exhibit
Sister Mary Ellen Wisner, O.P. will have her own solo art exhibit, “A Life in Colors,” at Mariandale Retreat and Conference Center, Ossining, New York. The exhibit will show artwork of oil and watercolor paintings. A reception for Sister Mary Ellen will be held on Sunday, August 28, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa – ‘Seeking Truth in the Year of Mercy’
On Monday, September 12, 2016, the Sinsinawa Dominicans will hold a free lecture, “Seeking Truth in the Year of Mercy,” celebrating the 800th jubilee of the Dominican Order. The speaker will be Sister Barbara Reid, O.P.
Faith and Film: Florence Foster Jenkins
This film adaptation was inspired by the real life story of Florence Foster Jenkins, a wealthy New York socialite and patroness of the arts in the 1940s. “The movie presents Florence as a woman who loved music, and wanted to sing, but had little talent.”
