‘St. Mary’s Dominican High School Blessing and Dedication of Gayle and Tom Benson Science and Technology Complex’
In April, St. Mary’s Dominican High School celebrated the blessing and dedication of the Gayle and Tom Benson Science and Technology Complex. In attendance were leadership, Dominican Sisters of Peace, benefactors, school officials, faculty, and students. The Complex is to help fulfill the STREAM™ (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts and Math) initiative.
Dominican Sisters of Sparkill Call for Social Justice
Recently, the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill took part in two social justice projects to support refugees and the Dominican Family in Iraq. The first project was to decorate pillowcases for the “Give Refugees Rest” campaign—a campaign to end Islamophobia and welcome Syrian and Muslim refugees into the U.S. The second project included shared messages of support “to increase awareness of the ongoing crisis facing their Dominican Family members and those they serve in Iraq.”

Faith and Film: The Jungle Book
The Jungle Book is a remake of the 1967 Disney animated film based off Rudyard Kipling’s classic book about an orphaned boy named Mowgli who lives in the jungle with wolves and is threatened to return to the humans by Shere Khan the Tiger.

Sinsinawa Mound to Hold Retreat, “River of My Soul: The Ebb and Flow of the Journey”
From June 3-4, 2016, Sinsinawa Mound will hold a retreat that “will allow participants to discover the natural rhythm and flow of their creative side” through art. The retreat will be led by artist Sister Stella DeVenuta, OSF. Registration deadline is May 27, and the fee is $117 for an overnight guest or $79 for a commuter.

“April 20 was a very exciting day for Sister Mary Doris and Sister Cecelia of the Dominican Sisters of Blauvelt, as well as the Siena House, where they minister. Public School #83 in the Bronx recently held a "Penny Wars" Fundraiser to benefit the Siena House. They came today to drop off the check. Thank you to all of Public School #83 for your generous donation.”

Dominican Sister of Peace Suzanne Brauer was featured in The Times-Picayune’s April 30th newsletter, “‘An insatiable love for people:’ Dominican sister brings peace to Gert Town,” for her work with the Peace Center. The Peace Center is a ministry of the Dominican Sisters of Peace in New Orleans, LA.
