Your WISDOM Note for the week of JANUARY 15th, 2012:

Quieting the Mind

You may not recognize how noisy your mental energy is until you begin to deliberately practice quieting your mind.

Fundamental to meditation, quieting the mind is also an important part of strengthening your ability to focus on a task at will and not be distracted by the constant stream of thoughts that keep you disconnected from experiencing all that is occuring around you.

Quieting or calming the mind is a mental skill that you develop much like a muscle of your body.  As you become better at releasing insignificant thoughts and letting go of attention to things that may distract your focus, you make room to focus energy on what needs your attention.

This makes you more productive, but it also means you aren't using so much brain power (energy) for things that aren't important.

Your thoughts carry the power to create your circumstances.  When you fret or worry it is because the mind is directing itself toward the unknown and with that all of the possibilities for what you likely  don't want.
When you quiet your mind through simple meditation, such as breathing deeply with a focus on your breath....you stop the noise of unimportant or destructive thoughts.

Redirecting your focus through attention to your breath gives you a reprieve.  You can redirect your mind to what is important, establish a different perspective on something, or simply be in the moment in quiet.

Look for the quiet that exists within you.  Find single moments of stillness and calm and feel the peace that is there.  Quiet and stillness in your mind reminds you that simply 'being' is pure existance without any thoughts.

The concept of quieting the mind is our reminder to be present, to experience the vast awareness of our connection to every other thing and to the pure awareness of unconditional love.

Peace & Blessings,
Dorothy
