Eastern Trail Alliance E-News February 2014

Lots of Things Rising Up on the Eastern Trail - The Full Moon, Sign-ups for the Lighthouse Ride, and best of all - the Temperature!!

We’re off to a great 2014 already with terrific MLR registration numbers, and two Eastern Trail Moonlight events in February!

The 2014 Maine Lighthouse Ride is Already 20% Full - Are You Riding??

Active.com recently listed the Maine Lighthouse Ride as one of 12 Cycling Events to Do in 2014. Maybe that’s one reason why registration for the 11th Annual Maine Lighthouse Ride is off to the strongest start in the history of the event — more than 200 riders have already signed on! That drops us down to fewer than 800 open spots, which are bound to fill quickly in the coming months. Fees are $55 for Eastern Trail Alliance members (become a member, or renew membership here), $70 for non-ETA members, $25 for youth aged 12-17, and free for children 11 and younger. Do it for the lighthouses, the camaraderie, the chowder or the chili, but don’t wait long to sign up.

Upcoming Full Moonlight Walks on the ET

We have two ETA-led events on the trail this month, one in Scarborough and one in Biddeford. We’re hoping the snow pack is replenished before then — there’s already too little time to play in the snow in southern Maine during the winter!

First, join us for a Moonlight Walk, Snowshoe or XC Ski on the Scarborough section of the ET at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12. Meet at the ET parking lot on Pine Point Road. We will travel without any artificial light. Please, no flashlights or pets. Leisurely pace, children welcome. Stabilizing footwear and ski/shoe poles recommended. Return to cars about 8:30 p.m. FMI, Scott Marcoux: marcoux_scott@hotmail.com, or 207-590-3505.

You can also join us in Biddeford for a Full Moon Walk, Snowshoe or XC Ski on the ET at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, February 14. The route will include an area that has seen a great deal of beaver activity, with evidence visible from the trail. No flashlights or pets, please. Meet at the rear of the Southern Maine Health Care parking lot. Stabilizing footwear and ski/shoe poles recommended. FMI, Joe Yuhas at folk44@aol.com or 207-283-4487. Please note, this event is also part of the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend, Feb. 14-16.

Stop by our website’s Trail Events page regularly for information on upcoming trail  outings.

Invite Friends to Join the ETA!
The Eastern Trail Alliance receives no state or federal operating funds. ETA depends upon member dues, Maine Lighthouse Ride, and private grants to operate. ETA needs you and your friends to keep up its public outreach and lobbying to receive state federal funds to continue construction. Many, many thanks to our members and supporters without whose help there could be no Eastern Trail! Please forward this newsletter to your friends that may be interested in the trail. Joining the Alliance is easy! Just click here!
