John Andrews, Founder of the Eastern Trail  O'Reilly's Cure logo

This event honors John Andrews, Eastern Trail founder, mentor and friend.

John's vision to create the Eastern Trail started in the early 1990's. He was persistent, but patient, and made tremendous progress in a relatively short amount of time. After starting this amazing effort, John lived on the trail, used the trail, and guided countless others to understand and appreciate this great resource. Sadly, John passed away in February 2017.

Registration fees are $20 prior to the event, $25 on the day of the event. For those over 21, one beer or glass of wine is included with registration fee! Last year’s event was so much fun, we hope to exceed the fundraising and fun again this year!

This is a tobacco-free, rain or shine, event. Please leave strollers and dogs at home. Thank you.

Not a runner but want to be part of the fun? Consider joining us to help register runners before the start or assist along the course cheering on runners and handing out water. To volunteer for the JA5k contact our Volunteer Coordinator at jen@easterntrail.org.

Missa Gaia Concert Raises $2000 for the Eastern Trail

Missa Gaia Concert was held on April 28th. The event welcomed over 500 in the audience and 160 singers at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Portland. Our table with information was visited by Eastern Trail enthusiasts and those requesting information about the trail.

The Missa Gaia celebration of the earth and her wonderful creatures really held the audience throughout the concert. The Eastern Trail is proud to have been chosen as the donation recipient of this event. The symmetry of the ETA and Paul Winter and his consort could not have been better. Thank you Voices in Harmony for including us!

Gap Tracks Program

Image of a Gap Tracks sign on the trail

On Tuesday, May 1, Dr. Noah Perlut and his students presented their findings from the first year of their “Gap Tracks” program.

Their findings were derived from hours and hours of video footage from the 8 strategically placed cameras around the Gap between South Portland and Scarborough on the Eastern Trail. The students extracted the information and presented their findings pertaining to animal and human traffic on and off of the trail. Identifying the seasons with the most activity, the various species found on the trail and their behavior throughout the year.

We highly recommend following their Facebook page and liking their page.
