Eastern Trail Alliance E-News November 2013

An Active Eastern Trail - Enjoying the greenway now, planning new activities and trail growth for the future!

Don’t Forget Your Blaze Orange - Hunting season is well underway, and continues through mid-December. Please remember that hunting is permitted in Maine on many private and public lands — some in close proximity to the Eastern Trail.

During hunting season, please take proper precaution by wearing blaze orange clothing and putting a blaze orange vest on your pet. Also, we suggest you wear a blaze orange hat as well and NOT use a white hat or white bike helmet. Go here for more information on hunting laws,

Preliminary ET Design Presented in Scarborough

The Town of Scarborough recently hosted a presentation on the preliminary design for the section of the ET that would close the gap between the Nonesuch River in Scarborough and Wainwright Fields in South Portland. This section of the trail presents significant challenges that are both logistical and financial, as you’ll see. You can watch the video from the meeting, available here on Scarborough's website.

Upcoming Moonlight Walks on the ET

ETA Trustee Joe Yuhas has two ET Moonlight Walks on the calendar: this coming Monday, November 18 and Tuesday, December 17, both in Biddeford. Meet Joe at the rear of the Southern Maine Medical Center parking lot. These walks will be lit exclusively by natural light so we ask that you not use any flashlights or other artifical light sources. No pets, please. Wear your layers! Crossing Improvements in Scarborough

The Town of Scarborough recently made improvements to the Eastern Trail crossings on Pine Point and Black Point roads, including the addition of marked crosswalks and flashing warning lights, to assist trail users in crossing. Of course, even with these upgrades, please stop and look both ways before crossing any of the roads along the ET.

Notice for Groups Planning Events on the ET

If your group is planning an event next year that takes place on at least part of the ET, you’ll want to make sure your date and location aren’t already spoken for by filling out our Event Application

Invite Friends to Join the ETA!
The Eastern Trail Alliance receives no state or federal operating funds. ETA depends upon member dues, Maine Lighthouse Ride, and private grants to operate. ETA needs you and your friends to keep up its public outreach and lobbying to receive state federal funds to continue construction. Many, many thanks to our members and supporters without whose help there could be no Eastern Trail! Please forward this newsletter to your friends that may be interested in the trail. Joining the Alliance is easy! Just click here!
