New leadership at Edmonds CC!

Gov. Jay Inslee appointed new Board of Trustee member, Dr. Tia Benson Tolle, and a new Student Trustee, Mr. Omar Abdulla.

Dr. Benson Tolle is currently the Director of Advanced Materials at Boeing and has an extensive work history in aerospace materials and engineering. She’s also worked at NASA’s Johnson Space Center as a Flight Crew Instructor and at the Flight Dynamics Laboratory and Wright Laboratory in Composite Structures. She served in the Air Force holding several positions including the Chief of the Structural Materials Branch and lead of the Composites Core Technology Area. She wholeheartedly believes in education and that it is the key to success and a gateway for others.

Mr. Omar Abdulla was appointed as our third student trustee. Mr. Abdulla currently serves as a member of our Associated Students of Edmonds Community College and is a student leader committed to contributing to the positive, inclusive environment at the college. He works to provide education, cultural, and social programs for students such as the Brown Bag Lecture Series. Outside of the college, Mr. Abdulla is a part-time sports instructor at the Dale Turner YMCA in Shoreline.

The Edmonds Community College Board of Trustees is composed of six members appointed by the governor. All members except the Student Trustee serve a five-year term. The Student Trustee serves a one-year term.

MLK Jr. Community Celebration

Jan. 14 | 12:30 and 7 p.m. | Black Box Theatre

Join us for a community celebration commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Our keynote speaker, Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, will share an inspirational message. Dr. Dyson — an American Book Award recipient and a two-time NAACP Image Award winner — is touted as one of the nation’s most influential and renowned public intellectuals. He has been named one of the 150 most powerful African Americans by Ebony magazine. The Philadelphia Weekly contends that Dr. Dyson “is reshaping what it means to be a public intellectual by becoming the most visible black academic of his time.” While honoring the life and legacy of Dr. King, this celebration creates a positive atmosphere that encourages mutual understanding and respect for our growing and changing community.

Both the afternoon and evening events are free and open to the public. Reservations are strongly recommended. Reserve your free ticket at www.blackboxedcc.org. Find out more about the event and our keynote speaker.

Art Gallery Exhibit | “Epilogue” | Minh Carrico, Carina A. del Rosario, and SuJ’n Chone

Jan. 4-March 14 | College Art Gallery, Lynnwood Hall, third floor

Meet the artists!
Reception 3-6 p.m. | Fri., Jan. 15 in the art gallery

Art Gallery Hours:

  • Monday-Thursday 7:30 a.m.-9 p.m.
  • Fridays 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Weekends 1-5 p.m.

“Epilogue” is a new collaboration among Minh Carrico, SuJ’n Chon, and Carina A. del Rosario. Their first venture began with founding and managing IDEA Odyssey, a collective art gallery dedicated to artists of color, in Seattle’s International District. “Epilogue” is subliminally a celebration of the physical gallery’s closure, and an exploration as the trio embarks on their first artistic collaboration. They engage in conversations about identity, growth, and discovery in a visual construct, interpreting and rendering each other’s visual works, writings, and artifacts in previously unexplored media.

Program in the spotlight: Licensed Practical Nursing Program

Integrate theory and practice throughout the nursing program. Theory courses will be taught using online and hybrid (online and in class) instruction. Students apply theoretical knowledge during laboratory experiences on campus one to two evenings per week and during clinical experiences caring for patients in long-term care facilities, acute care hospitals, and community agencies.

The program is designed for students who hold a valid CNA license in Washington State and are currently working in a direct patient care profession such as nursing assistant, medical assistant, or surgical technician.

The Nursing Program at Edmonds CC has received approval by the Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission. Graduates receive a certificate of proficiency in practical nursing.

Find out more about requirements, documentation, courses, and TEAS testing at an upcoming information session. The next information session is Jan. 12, 5-6 p.m. in Woodway Hall, room 101.
