Edmonds CC Foundation reached its $1 million campaign goal in support of student veterans
The Edmonds Community College Foundation proudly reached its $1 million fundraising campaign goal — Boots to Books and Beyond — on Dec. 31. "Our community has stepped forward to support critical services for our veterans and their families," said Steve Pennington, campaign co-chair and Foundation Board of Director member. "With 24 percent more student veterans being served in the Veterans Resource Center this year, our support is already making an impact." Film and Discussion: “A Breath of Freedom”
Feb. 18 | 7 p.m. | Black Box Theatre
They fought to liberate Germany from Nazi rule, as racism reached unfathomable levels. Their fight would continue back home on American soil. This is the story of the one-million-plus African Americans who fought in World War II. Discover their encounters with hatred, from the enemy and from within their own ranks. The film will be followed by a question-and-answer discussion with Veterans Judge Charles Johnson – whose story is featured in the film, and Dr. Joseph W. Scott – author of "Little Ethiopia of the Pacific Northwest.” This discussion is moderated by U.S. Veteran Raymond Miller. Cultural Conversations: The Disconnect Between Black, Brown, and Blue

Citing the recent protests in Ferguson, Missouri and New York, this facilitated forum will be an open conversation about the perception that people of color have regarding the police, and perceived police attitudes regarding people of color. Come join us! Free and open to the public.
Make a green difference and get a chance to win money in the Sustainability Challenge

Edmonds Community College and the Northwest Innovation Resource Center (NWIRC) are working in a strategic business relationship, on projects that benefit both our organizations, northwest community businesses, entrepreneurs, inventors, artists, and students. The NWIRC invites teams to submit their best ideas for products that will create a positive environmental sustainability impact and show high potential for commercialization. The initial registration MUST be submitted by March 1, with the finalist making an oral presentation in May. NWIRC provides the format for proposals. Brown Bag Lecture Series: A Shot of Reality

An improvised show focused on alcohol awareness. Set through the premise of an audience member's birthday party, the audience goes through an emotional rollercoaster about the possible pitfalls of alcohol abuse. It's not an anti-alcohol show, it encourages responsible fun. Plus, it's super funny

Speakers Bureau Lecture: Teresa Ciabattari

Edmonds CC partners with Humanities Washington to bring sociology professor Teresa Ciabattari to speak to students about: Family Diversity: Past, Present, and Future. Ciabattari will explore the complexity and history of modern American families. Specializing in contemporary American Families, Ciabattari is an Associate Professor of sociology at Pacific Lutheran University.
RecycleMania E-Waste and Shred Event
March 7 | 10 a.m.-2 p.m. | Parking Lot A, Edmonds CC Campus

Bring your old electronics to be properly recycled in this E-Waste collection event. Also, bring any documents that you want to be erased forever in this first time Edmonds CC Shred Event! The campus' Green Team is partnering with E-Waste, a local state certified premier electronics recycling company, to host this event. Help keep electronics and paper documents out of the landfill and keep your information secure.
Scholarship Opportunities for Edmonds CC Students
Deadline: April 20

The Edmonds Community College Foundation sponsors annual scholarships for Edmonds CC students. Scholarship applications for the 2015-16 school year will open at the end of February. There are more than 40 scholarships available for students with the exception of students enrolled in Running Start for the duration of the upcoming academic year. Eligible students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Scholarships are available for full-time, part-time, international, and undocumented students.
Program in the Spotlight: Culinary Arts

 

Are you a closet foodie? Expand your knowledge and feed your passion with a certificate or degree from the Culinary Arts program. The program combines classical cooking methods with regional flair while equipping you with skills to run a profitable business. Learn food service management, preparation, and restaurant service while gaining experience working in our kitchens, campus restaurant, and at catered events. Our program uses locally grown food as much as possible, so you can help support local farms in the process.
