Three students, Willy Tjeng, Maria Veronica, and Weiwen Zhang were each accepted to prestigious programs at UC Berkeley, where they plan to transfer this fall. Willy, from Indonesia, will study chemical engineering; Maria Veronica, also from Indonesia, will study economics, and Weiwen, from China, will study actuarial science.

WWU Scholarship Awards 

Two EdCC students are among recipients of a new scholarship program at Western Washington University, created exclusively for international transfer students. Masako Inoue from Japan and Vy Do from Vietnam have been awarded the International Achievement Award for the 2015-2016 academic year, based on their outstanding scholastic performance while studying here. Their awards will be automatically renewed for the following year, provided they maintain a requisite GPA at WWU.  

Student Activities

Through several activities programmed by International Student Services (ISS), many students explored the famous Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, shopped at Seattle Premium Outlets, hiked to Wallace Falls, danced at the Folklife Festival, and cheered on the Seattle Sounders this spring! Global Engagement and Exchange

South Africa: University of the Free State

Eight EdCC students will represent our college at the Global Leadership Conference at the  University of the Free State, South Africa from July 5 - 19. EdCC faculty and staff members Gem Baldwin, Tonya Drake, and Marisa DuBois, will accompany the students and participate in professional development opportunities. The trip will be funded by the Center for Student Engagement and Leadership (CSEL) and the University of the Free State.

China: Beijing Jiaotong University

Computer science faculty member Niko Culevski travelled to Beijing, China this spring quarter to teach for the quarter at Beijing Jiaotong University, one of China's premier IT programs.

Japan: University of Nagasaki

As part of an exchange agreement , EdCC will welcome two students from the  University of Nagasaki as well as send an EdCC student to study at said university this fall.

Study and Work Abroad

In late summer, EdCC student Michelle Bennett will travel to Costa Rica for an intensive Spanish language program. Additionally, EdCC student Joshua Richards will begin an internship at the  Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil where tuition will be waived, in exchange for a commitment to teach English at the university.

This fall, students will be studying in several countries including Spain, Japan and Brazil.

Northwest Community College Initiative (NWCCI)

This year’s 16  Northwest Community College Initiative (NWCCI) students are nearing the end of their academic year and will soon return to their home countries. We are very proud of these students; they have developed professional skills, leadership abilities, and an understanding of U.S. society, democracy and culture while attending Edmonds Community College.

NWCCI is a cultural exchange program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Since its start in 2009, the NWCCI program has hosted 270 students from Bangladesh, Brazil, Cameroon, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cote D'Ivoire, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Pakistan, Panama, South Africa and Turkey. EdCC looks forward to welcoming a new group of NWCCI students this August.
