International Student Transfer

The Winter International Transfer Fair was held at EdCC on Monday, February 1 in Woodway Hall. A record number of 71 university transfer advisors attended to talk to our students about transfer opportunities at their respective schools. In addition to all of the flagship universities from Washington State, perennial favorites in attendance included UC Irvine, the University of Iowa, and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.  EdCC students weren’t the only ones who benefited from attending the fair. Many ISS academic advisors and staff members also attended to learn more about the myriad transfer options our students have.

The expanded meeting space in the new ISS office in Snohomish Hall has made it easier to accommodate university advisors who want to meet with our students for one-on-one transfer advising appointments. Already, UW Bothell has scheduled three visits and the University of Iowa has visited as well. Western Washington University and UW Tacoma’s Milgard School of Business are scheduled to visit later this winter, and other transfer advising events are being planned for the upcoming spring quarter. These visits are a tremendous benefit to students—they can receive tailored advising and assistance in selecting the best EdCC classes to take for a future transfer that is as seamless as possible.

Last, but not least, Edmonds CC is proud to have had the highest transfer rate of international students to UCLA from a college outside of California for Fall 2015 admission!

International Night

Each year, Edmonds CC puts on a cultural showcase featuring our own Triton talent (many at professional levels!)

This year, we will have Palestinian Dabke dancing, Chinese opera, a multicultural performance by Linda Kappus' voice class, group ensembles from the Indonesian Club and Vietnamese Student Association, and much more.

Northwest Community College Initiative (NWCCI)

The Northwest Community College Initiative (NWCCI), sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is a one-year program for selected international students to pursue educational study focused on certificate programs in workforce development fields. NWCCI students have volunteered at Seattle’s  Bureau of Fearless Ideas, the  Foundation for International Understanding Through Students (FIUTS), the Creative Retirement Institute (CRI)Friends of the Edmonds Library, and  Housing Hope in Everett. In January 2016, the students took an inaugural trip to Washington D.C. with NWCCI's three other college consortia where they spent five days enhancing their knowledge of U.S. history, politics, and culture.

NWCCI students are now beginning to search for 60-hour, unpaid internship opportunities in the community as part of their program requirements. NWCCI strives to maintain current partnerships and is always looking to create new ones. Feel free to reach out to NWCCI at:  Amanda.Fletcher@email.edcc.edu or visit  www.NorthwestCCI.com for more information.
