February 9, 2017

Dear E4FC Friend,

The California Dream Act application priority deadline is March 2nd, 2017.

The California Dream Act allows certain undocumented students to apply for and receive state-based financial aid and institutional scholarships. Please be sure that all undocumented students— both new and continuing students—know that the  2017-18 California Dream Act applications are currently being accepted through the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC). Students must apply every year between Oct 1st & March 2nd!

Reassure students that it’s safe to apply!

According to CSAC Executive Director Lupita Cortez Alcalá: "Regardless of what happens at the federal level, state financial aid for Dreamers remains legal in California. A Dreamer student does not need to be DACA-certified to be eligible for a public education or state financial aid. Losing DACA status will not affect most state financial aid…furthermore, the information provided via the California Dream Act Application is used solely to determine eligibility for state financial aid and isn't shared with the federal government or used for immigration enforcement purposes. CSAC will protect this information to the fullest extent of the law." Read complete joint statement  here from CSAC and California Department of Education.

E4FC has gathered helpful information, resources, and tools to ensure that undocumented students can confidently apply for and receive state financial aid.

What about students who don’t qualify for the California Dream Act?

ALL undocumented students—regardless of their eligibility for the California Dream Act—can go to college and receive private scholarships! Check out E4FC’s detailed list of scholarships that don't require proof of citizenship.

Please share this information to make sure undocumented students apply by the March 2nd priority deadline and receive all the financial aid for which they are eligible!
