NORTHERN FIRST NATIONS HEALTH AUTHORITY NEWS
Welcome to the August 2022 edition of NORTH
IN THIS EDITION

Summer has been busy in the North! The Canadian Native Fastball Championships attracted teams from across the country to Lheidli T'enneh territory. Catch the action in our gallery.

It's also Pow Wow season. To find out more about these cultural events from a dancer's point of view, read Exploring the Pow Wow Life.

A northern dentist recalls how difficult the old benefits system was for Indigenous people, with limited services being covered. That has changed for the better with the new(ish) Pacific Blue Cross Plan. Dr. David Waller shares his thoughts in Veteran Dentist No Longer Has to Work for Free to Save Teeth.

Did you know that remote nurses have certain traits that can predict if they'd be a fit for working in the North? It isn't really scientific, but see if it jibes for you. And if you are a nurse, and it does, Have We Got a Job for You! Plus check our 24+ other positions.

Fourteen of our 55 northern communities now have the FNHA northern regional team overseeing nursing operations: six nursing stations and eight health centres. Julie Morrison, our vice president of regional operations, tells us more about this in her Bonfire Chat.

We round out the eZine with some info on funding, a reminder to order PPE supplies for the fall, an overview of the Maternity and Baby Advice Line, staff changes and useful contact information.
