The VI Region welcomes Sophia Nala Speier to the Research Knowledge and Exchange team as a Reseach Assistant |
Gilakas'la, Hello, my name is Sophia Nala Speier and I am Musgamagw Dzawada'enuxw from Kingcome Inlet, which is part of Kwakwaka'wakw territory. My traditional name is Kik'sisalas and my ancestors are from the Willie and Scow families.
I am a co-op student in my fourth year of a combined major in Biology and Psychology at the University of Victoria, and my studies are focused on Indigenous health. I have also had the opportunity to participate in the LE'NONET program at UVIC, which is a program for Indigenous students to learn about and apply Indigenous and Western research methodologies, as well as learn wise practices in working with Indigenous communities. I am passionate about traditional and holistic concepts of mental health and wellness, and I am looking forward to working with and learning from the team at FNHA as well as from Indigenous youth and community members during my co-op term. Gilakas'la, thank you!

The VI Region welcomes Jazmine McCrimmon-Cook to the Regional Community Health and Wellness team as a Practicum Student |
My name is Jazmine McCrimmon-Cook and I am a practicum student at the FNHA on the Mental Health & Wellness Team. I come to this practicum from the University of Victoria in the Child and Youth Care program with Indigenous specialization. I am Kwakwaka’wakw from the ‘Namgis & Musgamagw Dzawada'enuxw tribes, however, work, live and play on the Lekwungen & WSANEC territories in Victoria. My passion for child & youth wellness is important to me because I want to assist in creating changes. I see the resilience children & youth have and I want to provide the tools needed to succeed because they are our future leaders who deserve respect.
Beyond schooling I am a mother of a one-year-old daughter, which has been a learning curve to balance school and a toddler, however we enjoy walks, swimming and I enjoy painting for my mental and physical wellness. I look forward to my 12 week learning journey here at the FNHA.
