Vancouver Island Regional team and Island Health invite all Vancouver Island Governance and Health leadership to a town hall meeting for a discussion on the COVID-19 pandemic and vaccine roll out. Participants are encouraged to submit any questions you may have regarding the vaccine to - vi.engage@fnha.ca. |

COVID-19 Vaccine
We can see the light at the end of tunnel, with vaccines against COVID-19 being approved and beginning to be rolled out to First Nation communities, starting with remote, isolated, and those with COVID-19 outbreaks.

Let's stay safe while kick-starting our 2021 Wellness Goals. The Winter Wellness Grants available through the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) are intended to support innovative ways for people to stay safe and well in the New Year – including through online activities. |

Grants of upto $1000 are available to support your virtual Winter Wellness initiative.

Events & Social Gatherings - Provincial Wide Restrictions |
|
|
By order and direction of the Provincial Health Officer, all events and social gatherings are suspended to significantly reduce COVID-19 transmission. This order is in effect from November 19, 2020 to February 5, 2021.
|
|
|
The one-time grants will provide funding to community groups, service providers and Indigenous-led organizations to support rural, remote and Indigenous communities. The funding will help communities carry out local actions specific to the needs of their community. Examples include relationship building and knowledge sharing among service providers, support for organizations to develop harm-reduction policies and awareness programs aimed at reducing stigma, and community wellness programs that will connect people to life-saving supports and services.

Nawalakw is excited to grow our team! In partnership with the Kwakiutl District Council (KDC) and First Nation Health Authority (FNHA), we are looking for a Health and Wellness Manager to join our team. This management role will research, design, and deliver holistic health and wellness programming for Kwakwaka’wakw of all ages - responsible for all aspects of multi-program development and delivery at Nawalakw Culture Camps. They will work closely with the Language Program Director and will oversee the coordination of the Culture Camp operations.
In addition to planning for and coordinating on-site health and wellness programs, and supervision of camp coordination, the work will also include: 1) Collaborating with partners including but not limited to: Kwakiutl District Council Health (KDC), First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), School District #85, and North Island region Band Schools, 2) Engaging with partners and communities to understand needs and cultural considerations, 3) Developing a stakeholder group, 4) Identifying and working respectfully with medicine people, elders, youth leaders, facilitators, healers, scholars/researchers, treatment centres, and other community healing programs, 5) Conducting baseline research into the effectiveness of pilot programs with post-secondary education partners.
Some travel will be required, including delivering programs at Hada. Relocation funding may be available for candidates who live outside of Northern Vancouver Island. Please inquire if needed.
