The Plant Sale is Here!

cvillefirstumc@gmail.com
The Plant Sale is THIS SATURDAY April 29th! Have you signed up to help or donate plants/materials?  We need you so that this can be a success! Please let us know if you would still like to donate by using this form.  (The form also has spots for setting up, pricing, and cleaning up.)

Do you have a canopy tent we could use to keep our shade-loving plants (and volunteers) protected?  Please let Cindy know as soon as possible.
If you have any plastic plant trays or pots you can donate we would appreciate it.  That way our customers can carry their things to their cars easily.
The tweens met this past Wednesday to paint flower pots to raise funds
for the nurture ministries at the plant sale this Saturday.  They had a blast!!
Other Important Information:

Thank you for donating to the Plant Sale!  To help make the event run efficiently,  we ask that you follow the suggestions listed below when you bring in your plants.  You can use popsicle sticks or masking tape to do this.

Please bring in your plants to Room 208 on Friday, April 28.  Due to the celebration service for Ruth Martin on Friday at 1:00, please consider bringing your donations in prior to noon or after 3:00, as parking will be limited from noon-2:00.
  3. Indicate any other special information about your plant.  If you are unable to bring them that day, please call/email Cindy to make arrangements!

For our ONE THING MINISTRY for the month of May we will be supporting a ministry of the Virginia Annual Conference called
All God’s Children Camp.

This is a weeklong overnight camp for children ages 7 to 12, with an incarcerated parent.  Campers have an opportunity to participate in all the physical activities the camp has to offer such as boating, swimming, hiking, archery, music, crafts, and Bible study, along with a conflict resolution/self-esteem-building class.  All God’s Children Camp provides a week of sanctuary for children who face so many challenges in their lives such as economic poverty, temporary living conditions, loneliness, low self-esteem, violence and drugs while working to break the cycle of incarceration.  All God’s Children Camp is a place where children learn they are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God and they are truly ‘somebody’!  This is a wonderful way to honor the children whose mothers are incarcerated and to give the incarcerated mothers the gift of knowing their children are loved.

THANK YOU FROM THE IRC
FOR REFUGEE ASSISTANCE

Laurie P. of the International Rescue Committee in Charlottesville has written a personal thank you to Charlottesville First UMC for assistance offered to two refugee families. We began work with the Sahil & Ahmadi families early in 2022 and team members remain in contact with them. Laurie noted that team members “recorded countless hours over a 7 month period and stuck by them when they needed you most. Your team has seen the family through all their stressors and accomplishments of a new community. Thanks from the bottom of our hearts.”

Would you be interested in helping with communion preparation?

Help is needed to prepare communion on the first Sunday of every month and special holidays. This would involve working with another experienced team member to set-up and then clean up after communion. The set - up process is currently done on Sunday morning before the service and would take about 30 – 45 minutes. Clean-up after the service takes about 20 minutes. Each team member does this once every three to four months depending on how many people are on the team. Questions and info? Contact Evelyn Kessler at eckess@mindspring.com or 434-971-7329.
