Abigail Carroll & Village2Village Project
Abigail Carroll was our inaugural Marsden Faith & Arts speaker and she has donated her honorarium to an organization close to her heart.
Abby says: The Village2Village Project is an organization that works with about 225 vulnerable children in the rural district of Serere in Uganda through mentoring, nutrition, medical care, and educational support. A few years ago, with the release of
Habitation of Wonder, I initiated an arts justice project with the proceeds in collaboration with the Ugandan board, specifically providing for the purchase of native African instruments for the children as well as lessons.
The project has been tremendously successful, and when Cup My Days Like Water released, I decided to continue the project, as they have now opened a second campus in the neighboring district which is even more under-resourced and under-educated as an area. I'm extremely delighted to continue to share the gift of the arts through the generosity of Charlottesville First United Methodist Church.
If you'd like to read more about the organization, here is a link to their website: Village2Village Project.

Welcome Our Newest Connectional Ministry Intern
Catherine “CJ” McCrary is a current PhD candidate in Religion, Literature, and Culture at the University of Virginia.
With a master’s degree from Boston University’s Methodist School of Theology and a Bachelor of Arts from Liberty University, she boasts nearly a decade in Christian higher education. While she has attended church and volunteered in the children’s ministry at Wesley Memorial UMC in Charlottesville for the past two years, the Connectional Ministries Internship represents CJ’s first formal foray into church ministry.
Her passion for Christ’s body and bride, the Church, and the children whom Jesus urges to “come to me” (Lk. 18:16) is matched only by her hunger for God’s Word revealed in Scripture.
She counts herself blessed to serve the church family of First UMC Charlottesville, and she eagerly looks forward to pursuing the church’s mission of “loving the city whole” one person at a time.

More Flooding in Appalachia
It is with a heavy heart that we share yet another catastrophic flood impacting our region. We have confirmed widespread devastation in Hazard, Leslie, Floyd, Harlan, Clay, Perry, and Pike counties in KY; Buchanan County, VA; and McDowell County, WV. A levee failure in Rives, TN has left the town submerged.
ASP will have teams on the ground to assess damage, connect with partners, determine ways to assist and offer resources like tools and equipment. ASP's role in recovery will take time to develop as we assess the needs and our capacity, while also honoring our existing commitments.
If you feel called to give, you can do so here.

Love INC Cville
After rent and utilities, the most requested need is for furniture. Love INC Cville is desperately looking for volunteers with vehicles to pick up and deliver furniture that has been donated to Love INC for distribution to our neighbors in need. Without the ability to deliver the furniture, large amounts end up in the dump instead of going to those who desperately need it.
To inquire about how to help, message Raymond Klein, Executive Director of Love INC at raymond@loveinccville.org .

Thank You For Your Continued Support to Loaves and Fishes
Happy 2025! Despite a few snow days early in the month and some very cold distributions, the pantry had a great start to the new year. In January, we served:
- 3,286 total households - That is an average of 205 households/828 people receiving groceries on each of the 16 distribution days in January.
- 13,262 individuals: 37% aged 0-18; 53% aged 19-59; 10% aged 60+
- Roughly 9% of households last month were first-time visitors, and approximately 36% of our clients visited us twice in the month.
