Midweek Update
Our team shares their experience of ministry on the Appalachian Service Project last week.
Transition in the Youth Program
After serving as Director of Youth Ministries through the pandemic and into the next stage of ministry at Charlottesville First, Dave Breslin will be leaving the position as of July 9th. We are grateful for his positive leadership and all the gifts he has brought to the position and wish him well as he continues his work in a new faculty role at Liberty University and in other educational ventures. We will recognize Dave during the service on Sunday, July 9.
Lara Upton will be increasing her hours and stepping into the position of interim youth director in addition to her role as children’s director. This will allow the Staff-Parish/Pastor Relations Committee to assess our longer-term goals for the youth ministry program.

Thank you, Dave and Lara!
Thank You from The Haven!
The Haven Staff wanted to say Thank you for the love & support from CFUMC. The Haven lost one of their Staff, Day Manger, Laura Delapp to senseless domestic violence. She was a rock for the Haven and a pillar in the community. Please keep the staff of The Haven in your prayers as they navigate these next steps. CFUMC will be contributing another staff lunch for The Haven if anyone wants to help contribute, please email Joey Clark.
Plastic Free July
It's July--have you joined the Plastic-Free July Challenge yet?
For now, consider how your shower habits can have a positive impact on the environment by refusing to use single-use products in plastic containers.  Buy shampoo, face wash, body wash, and shaving products in bar form rather than in plastic bottles.  Avoid buying products that have palm oil in them.  Try making your own soap!
We are all Caretakers of God's Creation and we can start with small steps in our own homes.

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) have  provided resources for energy and climate resiliency improvements that can be used in houses of worship and our homes, included clean energy tax credits for wind and solar, EVs, efficiency upgrades, heat pumps, and much more. They have also made it easier for nonprofits and houses of worship to access clean energy funds and tax credits through a program called “direct pay.” Join Interfaith Power and Light on July 18th at 3 pm ET/Noon PT for a briefing with the U.S. Department of Energy on the climate and energy resources for faith communities.

For almost 40 years, the First United Methodist Preschool (FUMP) has offered full and partial tuition scholarships to families in need.

Our church family has been the primary supporter of these scholarships through individual and Sunday school class donations as well as fundraising.

Charlottesville can be an expensive place to live for young families and we are seeing an uptick in scholarship requests. Here is how you can help FUMP provide high quality preschool for children in our community:

*Sponsor a full or partial tuition scholarship for the year either through an individual or group donation:

$250/month will pay for a 2 year old.

$350/month will pay for a 3 year old.

$410/month will pay for a 4 year old.

$460/month will pay for a kindergartener.

*Make a general donation to the FUMP Scholarship Fund (no donation is too small!)

*Donate to the One Thing Ministry for the month of July which provides supplies for the preschool.

*Pray for our wonderful preschoolers and FUMP staff.

The Quiet Center, Sundays at 11:15 am in the Chapel.
Grief is a journey through the loss of anything or anyone that is loved.  It is a journey that calls for companions for sharing and for remembering and for mourning. If you want to explore grief, whether or not you are on that journey, join us in  The Quiet Center, an after-church gathering of, and for, anyone who wants to know more about grief’s journey. The sessions are “stand alone,” to join anytime and as often as you wish, to explore the many faces of grief and to share with each other our time, our experiences, our presence and our prayers.   The Quiet Center, Sundays at 11:15 am in the Sanctuary. If you have any questions, contact Rev. John at 703-887-7305 or at

Would you be interested in helping with communion preparation?

Help is needed to prepare communion on the first Sunday of every month and special holidays. This would involve working with another experienced team member to set-up and then clean up after communion. The set - up process is currently done on Sunday morning before the service and would take about 30 – 45 minutes. Clean-up after the service takes about 20 minutes. Each team member does this once every three to four months depending on how many people are on the team. Questions and info? Email Evelyn Kessler or call
