Congratulations Pastor Alex!
The VAUMC Being Together 5K, held during Annual Conference in Roanoke last week, raised over $10,000 for our Annual Conference Offering, supporting missions across the globe and right here in Virginia. Alex finished in 30:16.85, placing 24th, (and edging out his fellow former DS, Rev. Pete Moon)!

Annual Conference 2023 Report |
|
|
The theme for the 2023 Virginia Annual Conference, held June 15-17, 2023 at the Berglund Center in Roanoke, Va., was “United as One in Mission” with Bishop Sue Haupert-Johnson as the officiating bishop. The conference theme was based on Acts 1:8b. The Laity Session took place over Zoom on Sunday, June 11 and was recorded for later viewing.

There was a great amount of fellowship and joy surrounding the session as each day concluded by 5 p.m. to allow for clergy and lay members to spend time together. Due to the change in schedule from years past, members took part in an Advocacy event, Mission Social, Youth and Campus Ministries Tailgate, and a Game Night during their free time. Read the full report.

A Just Resolution was reached in the complaint pending against Rev. Andrew Stanton Ensz and an agreement was signed by all parties on June 5, 2023. The complaint against Rev. Ensz was made after he performed a same-gender wedding on September 21, 2019, a ministerial act prohibited by
Book of
Discipline Paragraph 341.6.
Parties to this process were the Rev. Clark Cundiff, Church Counsel, representative of The Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church; Complainant Rev. Amanda Miller Garber; Respondent Rev. Ensz; and Counsel for the Respondent Rev. Lauren Lobenhofer.
All parties are grateful to have reached a resolution, especially as Rev. Ensz remained under complaint for more than 1,300 days. Together as a conference, they hope there can be a refocus on the Church’s public witness to those seeking God’s grace and love and on serving others.
The Clergy Session of the 2023 Virginia Annual Conference will receive a report about the process pursued in this complaint and its cost to the Annual Conference.
This statement is offered jointly from the Virginia Conference of The United Methodist Church under the episcopal leadership of Bishop Sue Haupert-Johnson and the Rev. Drew Ensz and other represented parties of the Just Resolution agreement.

The Quiet Center, Sundays at 11:15 am in the Chapel.
Grief is a journey through the loss of anything or anyone that is loved. It is a journey that calls for companions for sharing and for remembering and for mourning. If you want to explore grief, whether or not you are on that journey, join us in
The Quiet Center, an after-church gathering of, and for, anyone who wants to know more about grief’s journey. The sessions are “stand alone,” to join anytime and as often as you wish, to explore the many faces of grief and to share with each other our time, our experiences, our presence and our prayers.

Would you be interested in helping with communion preparation?
Help is needed to prepare communion on the first Sunday of every month and special holidays. This would involve working with another experienced team member to set-up and then clean up after communion. The set - up process is currently done on Sunday morning before the service and would take about 30 – 45 minutes. Clean-up after the service takes about 20 minutes. Each team member does this once every three to four months depending on how many people are on the team. Questions and info? Email Evelyn Kessler or call
434-971-7329. |
