Midweek Update: July 16, 2025
Announcements
DID YOU KNOW?

24  pastors have led our congregation during the past 100 years joined by 24 assistant/associate pastors, 25 church musicians and scores of church staff members.

We’re excited to announce that we will be celebrating the 100 year birthday of Charlottesville UMC and our 2025 Consecration Sunday on the same day in early November!

We are collecting stories to share around these celebrations. Do you have a story to share? Contact Rex at rexhickman@comcast.net or Carolyn at carolynmcgee@cvillefirstumc.org. Thank you!!

Traveling Tiny Jesus

Pick up a tiny Jesus or two today on your way out of worship and take Him with you as you travel through life! If you go on vacation, place Him in your photo! Let us see the places you visit! (Truthfully, don’t we always want to have Jesus by our side?)

Share your photos with Carolyn and we will share them here!

Wild Church

Are you seeking a welcoming community to connect with in nature?

Join us on the Sacred Way, where we come together to worship and celebrate the Divine amidst the beauty of the outdoors. We meet outside several times a month to hike together.

Each gathering begins with a brief reflection and prayer before we embark on our holy hikes. All ages are invited to participate.

The One Thing Ministry for July will benefit Pack to School! We will again provide backpacks filled with supplies to benefit local schools. Be on the lookout for more information in July for One thing Ministry. Monetary donations are always welcome (please note “Pack to School” if writing a check or giving online.) However, the goal for this year is to collect as many school supplies as possible.  Questions or would you like to help with deliveries? Email Anika Winterhoff at anikamw77@outlook.com

In response to the recent flooding in Texas, the VA Conference of the UMC released this message:

We know that our VAUMC members want to help however we can to assist our Texan neighbors following the recent catastrophic flooding. Rev. Bob Pihlcrantz, VAUMC Disaster Response Coordinator, is sharing ways we can assist at this time:

Do not self-deploy! This will overwhelm Texan officials who are already overwhelmed with disaster recovery efforts. We will share more information when officials have asked for Early Response Team (ERT) volunteers.

Monetary donations are needed! (see below)

Please continue to pray for those who have lost loved ones and for all who have been impacted by the devastating disaster.

Please contact missions@vaumc.org if you have any questions. You can donate to UMCOR's US Disaster Response through our Realm online giving site.  You can also text 'GodisGood Texas' to 73256 (REALM) to access the giving site. You may also write a check and write Texas disaster response in the memo line.

IMPACT: an organization of Interfaith Movement Promoting Action by Congregations Together that works to solve critical community problems.  Large numbers of organized people work together as a grassroots, direct action, multi-issue organization. About 70 of us from CFUMC attended the Nehemiah Action along with 1200+ other people to hold county and city officials accountable for their decisions.

Our investment drive for 2025-26 has begun!

Why should you invest? Because IMPACT works. Here are some examples:

  1. Region Ten’s Women’s Treatment Center can now serve 80+ women a year, with facilities that will allow children to stay with their mothers.

  2. The regional jail is prevented from informing Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) of the release of non-violent undocumented offenders.

  3. Staffing by UVA and Martha Jefferson increased, preventing over 1600 dental related ER visits each year.

IMPACT’s investment goal is to raise $100,000 from the many congregations involved to continue their work of social justice. There are many ways to invest. You can mail a check to 1901 Thomson Rd, Cville, 22902, or give online at impactcville.com.

Your investment helps pay for recruiting, training, and development of leaders and congregations to effectively do justice and carry out the work of IMPACT together. Please consider an investment in an amount you feel comfortable giving.
