DID YOU KNOW?
During the 1950s church membership increased and finally went above 2,000. In 1962, youth meetings attracted over 100 each Sunday evening. These meetings developed into ecumenical events; and it was this group which planned and held the Monticello Easter Sunrise Services. Sunday School enrollment continued at about 1,000 for several decades.
We’re excited to announce that we will be celebrating the 100 year birthday of Charlottesville UMC and our 2025 Consecration Sunday on the same day in early November!
We are collecting stories to share around these celebrations. Do you have a story to share? Contact Rex at rexhickman@comcast.net or Carolyn at carolynmcgee@cvillefirstumc.org. Thank you!!

CFUMC Prayer Team/Partners,
For many months, the Prayer Team at CFUMC has supported (via your prayer efforts) a special commission that was formed in the VA United Methodist Conference in the late summer of 2024.
I have had the privilege to be a part of the work of the “Journey In Understanding” commission since last fall. We presented at the VA Annual Conference of the UMC on the afternoon of Thursday, June 12th.
If you’d like to see the outcome of our work, the link below will take you to the afternoon session of June 12th.
Our session starts with Bishop Sue introducing our special assignment. I believe I speak for all members of our team when I say that it felt like sacred work. I would love for you all to have the opportunity to see the report we delivered at the Annual Conference last week.
After clicking on the link below, you can move ahead via the cursor to the “time mark” 2:37:14. Our group’s entire presentation starts there and ends at 3:27. And, additionally there are two Conf. attendees‘ comments directly afterwards. Especially moving is the beautiful comment made by the woman at the Conference who wished to take the microphone to describe her family’s journey over the years related to the issue of LGBTQ+ inclusion. Her brief comments end at approx. the 3:33 time mark, and demonstrated the importance of inclusivity as we relate to our brothers and sisters In Christ.
Thank you for your prayers, once again! Pls see the link below,
With peace,
Claire

A New Book Study Opportunity for All
Thursdays from 10:30am-12pm starting June 19th
You're invited to a special summer study and journaling experience led by Claire Kent, exploring
God Was with Me All Along by Mary Lou Redding. Sessions will be held in person on Thursday mornings from 10:30am to noon, starting June 19.
Each meeting will include contemplative practices, reflection through music, scripture, and poetry, and group discussion based on journal prompts from the book. Join us in discovering how God’s presence has been with us all along—often in ways we only recognize in hindsight.
Questions? Contact carolynmcgee@cvillefirstumc.org.

Reconciling Sunday
June 22, 2025
Maybe you’ve seen the Reconciling Ministries table on Sunday morning and wondered: What’s the next step in making our congregation a welcoming and affirming congregation for all people?
Come explore some more on Sunday, June 22 when we hold our first Reconciling Sunday. The Rev. Emily Bagwell, of the Reconciling Ministry Network and an incoming Virginia United Methodist pastor, will be joining us for the 10 AM service and for a potluck lunch to follow in the fellowship hall.
During lunch we’ll have an opportunity to hear more about the RMN and what it would mean for us to become a Reconciling Church.
