SECURITY CHANGES
We’ve made some changes to make Charlottesville First UMC a safer and more welcoming place for everyone. If you’ve been in the building recently, you’ve probably noticed some of them.
- We’ve installed new keypads at each exterior door. Instead of a few common codes, we’re now giving out individual codes for those who need regular access outside of Sunday morning worship. This means we won’t have to change all the codes at once. The number of codes is limited, but if you’re one of those people who needs regular access outside of Sunday, just send an email to office@cvillefirstumc.org and ask for a code.
- Church doors are locked even on Sunday morning. Our greeters and security aide, G.L. Haney, are very helpful in welcoming people through the doors for Sunday services. If you arrive late to worship and find that no one is available at the welcome center door, just ring the bell to let someone know you’re there. Alternatively, if it is an option for you, you can come to the Jefferson St. doors where a greeter can meet you.
- We’re also implementing some new security measures for the preschool. We’ll be adding new interior doors in the hallway leading to the preschool on the first floor and at the stairway leading up from the preschool to the second floor. The keypad entrance directly to the preschool will also require a fob for entry.
- You can help by being aware when you’re in the building. Try to walk around the building with at least one other person when possible. And make sure that anyone who wants to enter the building has been identified as attending an ongoing event.
Thanks for your patience during these recent and upcoming changes. We trust they will help us keep everyone safe and sound in our building.

Reconciling Ministry Table
Sundays through June 22nd
What does it mean to become a Reconciling Church?
Stop by our welcome table (located in the Art Gallery right outside of the Sanctuary) after our worship service to find out! Members of our congregation who are Reconciling Individuals would love to share information with you about Reconciling Ministries Network.
Every Sunday now through June 22, we will be highlighting:
- What it means to be a Reconciling Congregation.
- Steps we have taken to become a Reconciling Church.
- How YOU can become a Reconciling Individual.
- And why it matters!
We hope you will stop by and say hello :)

Reconciling Sunday
June 22, 2025
Maybe you’ve seen the Reconciling Ministries table on Sunday morning and wondered: What’s the next step in making our congregation a welcoming and affirming congregation for all people?
Come explore some more on Sunday, June 22 when we hold our first Reconciling Sunday. The Rev. Emily Bagwell, of the Reconciling Ministry Network and an incoming Virginia United Methodist pastor, will be joining us for the 10 AM service and for a potluck lunch to follow in the fellowship hall.
During lunch we’ll have an opportunity to hear more about the RMN and what it would mean for us to become a Reconciling Church.
