Last week, Jon Scheumann attended the PACEM Wrap-Up and Planning Session at University Baptist Church on West Main Street. During the meeting, PACEM leaders reflected on the past shelter season and began planning for the year ahead.
CFUMC will once again serve as a host congregation for the PACEM Winter Shelter from February 2–16, 2027. Please mark your calendars and plan to be part of this important ministry serving our neighbors experiencing homelessness.
A few highlights from the 2025–2026 Winter Shelter season:
- 246 adults accessed shelter services
- 71% identified as men, 28% as women, and 1% as non-binary
- Guests identified as 44% African American, 42% Caucasian, and 6% Latinx
- Nearly 30% were experiencing chronic homelessness
- Almost 39% were age 55 or older
- 42% were from Charlottesville, and 62% were Virginia residents
- Emergency services responded to an average of 8 ambulance/EMT calls per month
CFUMC was also honored by PACEM with an Outstanding Service Award in recognition of hosting both the men's and women's shelters during the past season. This recognition reflects the dedication, compassion, and hard work of the many volunteers who gave their time and energy to care for our neighbors.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this ministry possible. Your generosity and commitment continue to make a meaningful difference in our community.
