As part of the Kermit Lynch portfolio for over five decades, Clos Coutale, under the direction 7^th generation winegrowers Philippe and Sebastien Bernede, has produced a quintessential style of Malbec (or Cot as it's locally known) based Cahors from Southwest France. The Bernedes were relatively late to the Rose Game, as they took several years perfecting proper selection and technique before coming to market. The resulting wine is exuberantly extroverted with a gorgeous strawberry pink hue, soaring aromas of bright and juicy red berries, a touch of spice, and a final hint of mouthwatering salinity providing a delightfully lingering finish.

Geyser Peak, while a legacy California winery founded in 1880, went through decades of management by various corporate entities with the unsurprising result of becoming identified as a producer of copious amounts of cheap, undistinguished bottlings. Most recently, now as a family owned and managed enterprise with winemaking under the direction of a 30 year veteran of the California scene, the winery's vision is based on creating value by sourcing surplus fruit from more prestigious appellations, rather than bottom feeding from the bulk markets, as well as producing bottlings entirely from renowned growing sources, in this case, Alexander Valley. This is a stunner of a deal for Alexander Valley Cab.

"Shows notes of ripe dark cherries, blackcurrants, walnuts, graphite and hints of tobacco. Medium to full bodied with polished, nicely crafted tannins and a velvety texture, typical of this region. Bright acidity supported by the addition of Petit Verdot, which also rounds out and balances the palate. Seamless and lingering. Drinks well now but will continue to develop for years."

An ancient heirloom grain, the Bloody Butcher corn comprises 70% of the recipe. The balance is 16% Red Winter Wheat and 14% malted barley. The Bloody Butcher corn, notoriously difficult to grow, provides intense flavor and structure. The Red Winter Wheat provides a velvety texture and generous mouthfeel. Malted Barley rounds out the mashbill and provides structure as well as flavor.
