The "SLO Coast" of California is currently riding a wave of high regard for its distinctive cool climate versions of both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The Derbyshire Vineyard is as coastal as it gets, offering panoramic views from the crest of its slopes. Style wise, think California meets Chablis.

"Flinty notes of struck granite meet with singed pineapple, salted nectarine and white flowers on the nose. The palate is firm and acid driven with yuzu and grapefruit peel flavors that open into salted almond, lemon curd, pie crust, and oyster shell finish. Great concentration, textural presence, and energy.

One hundred percent Tempranillo grown in the Rioja Alta subregion of Rioja, known for its cooler Atlantic influenced climate, allowing for slower ripening, resulting in wines presenting more bright, youthful, vibrant aromas and fruit flavors. Fifty percent of the wine receives two to three months of aging in fourth use French oak barrels, the micro-oxygenation creating softer tannins, promoting greater integration and balance without imparting any oak flavors. A terrific Summer red that can handle a slight chill and a variety of lighter grilled foods and vegetables. As with most Spanish wines the Cortijo punches way above its weight pricewise. For those with a "domestic" palate, a great entree into Old World wines.

"A spicy, earthy interplay of root beer bark, nettle, and star anise gives this aromatic pop. Intense but bright cherry flavors scented with hints of cedar and spice. Fine lift and energy, shapely with no rough edges, carried by a persistent tangy edge of raspberry on the finish."
