Here's another delightful reminder that there's way more to the world of Italian white wine than Pinot Grigio. “Pecora” means “sheep” in Italian. The Pecorino grape could be named after the hungry creatures that made a snack of them. The first varietal bottle of Pecorino was produced in Abruzzo in 1996. Altavilla consistently out performs it's price level and we're thrilled to pass on this spectacular deal provided with the assistance of the LOCAL IMPORTER.

The varietal displays notes of soft fruit, florals, dry herb, minerality, all balanced by freshening acid and a slightly heavier mouthfeel compared to Pinot Grigio. Bouquet of stone fruits and yellow apple with an intense lemon streak and a light grassy note. The palate brings rich undertones of nut and mineral to accent the fruit, ending with a focused and concentrated palate. With the exception of Chianti and Toscana, Montepulciano from Abruzzo is probably our most popular Italian red due to it's easy drinkabilty and versatilty with classic Italian dishes. This particular bottling offers a freshness and weighty fleshiness that is easy to consume and serves as a terrific "gateway" wine for those with more New World palates, who shy away from Italian reds because they are put off by their higher acidity or astringency.

Ripe black cherry and fresh mixed berry fruits with a streak of black pepper. A nicely concentrated palate shows earth, floral, and licorice tones accenting the fruit in a fuller-bodied, structured style with a pleasant, lightly tannic finish. - Staff Notes

The 'Old Pepper' label was proudly produced by Colonel James E. Pepper during his lifetime and marketed as 'The Oldest and Best Brand of Whiskey made in Kentucky.' Through Col. Pepper's advocacy on behalf of the bourbon industry, it was the first label in Kentucky to be bottled at the distillery, and his invention of the 'signature strip stamp' was later incorporated into the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897, assuring consumers of the quality of the whiskey in the bottle. Unique blends of distinct mash bills, consisting of Corn, Rye, Malted Barley & Malted Rye; Aged in new toasted & charred barrels made from Kentucky Oak, air seasoned a minimum of 18-24 months; Water source from the historic distillery well.
