The Sabon family is an ancient and well-regarded name in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, first mentioned in documents dating to 1540. The size of the domaine has grown slowly over the years with 18 hectares in Chateauneuf du Pape, 8 hectares in Lirac and 8 hectares in Côtes-du-Rhône. This blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Carignan offers a ripe, supple mouthfeel boasting a meaty aromatic and pure, copious red fruits. The Rimapere winery was taken over in 2012 by Baron Benjamin de Rothschild. Located in the prestigious Rapaura area of the Wairau Valley in the heart of Marlborough. The fresh climate of this region is one of the best in the world for producing Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. This single-vineyard Pinot is harvested by hand and aged for 10 months in French oak, 20% new. “Wonderfully aromatic and developed on the nose with notes of cracked black pepper, red cherry, wood smoke, earthy spice and cranberry. There's a freshness on the palate which indicates youth, yet this wine is definitely ready to drink but will evolve in the cellar. The palate is elegant and well balanced with a lovely concentration of fruit. This is only the third vintage of Pinot produced at the estate, and most definitely the best to date.”
