For centuries maligned, mistreated and misunderstood, Gamay [the red varietal of Beaujolais] was outlawed by Philip the Bold in 1395. Some vignerons rebelled, hiding forbidden Gamay vines among the "noble" Pinot Noir vines. In their honor, we "release" the deliberately disruptive Gamay bottled without appellation and without any rules! Gamay loves the granite/siliceous soils of the vineyards in the hills to the northwest of Lyon in eastern France. In the cellar, grapes are vinified using traditional carbonic maceration techniques (where fermentation is started by the weight of berries in the vat, crushing those below) followed by a short cuvasion to keep the up front, juicy fruit characters in this lighter style Gamay. This is a bright, candied red licorice-esque wine with a gorgeously interesting nose of musk, white daisies and nutmeg. The palate gives ripe black plum, blackberry, and rhubarb. – Producer Notes

Gros Manseng is relatively unknown; its potential as a winemaking grape was unrecognized for years. Thick-skinned and wild, it was often blended away anonymously and held in lower regard than its parent, Petit Manseng. This bottling is a celebration of the varietal's character, creating a zingy wine that is one of the fruitiest and most enjoyable you'll encounter. To get the best out of Gros Manseng, we've made two wines and blended them together: a bright and zingy Gros Manseng fermented to dryness into which we've blended a smaller proportion of late harvest Gros Manseng, bringing with it a delightful fruitiness and exotic spice. – Producer Notes

“A tribute and testament to the vineyard's natural setting as well as its meticulous farmed Chardonnay vines. This offering was whole-cluster pressed, barrel fermented on native yeasts, and aged in 100% French oak barrels (18% new) for 10 months. This well-balanced Chardonnay went through 100% Malolactic fermentation with battonage twice per month for 6 months. The Estate Chardonnay shows great focus, epitomizing nature of the Eden Rift Estate. It is bright with notes of exotic citrus as well as Bosc pear, lemon zest, orange cream, white flowers and mineral notes. On the palate, it is richly textured yet replete with acidity. – Winery Notes
