Bush Mallow AKA Chaparral Mallow (
Malacothamnus fasciculatus) has been representing the rest of the flowering natives during the heat of the summer. A prolific fire follower, it has made a robust comeback since the December 2017 Thomas and Koenigstein Fires.

On Saturday, September 25, I'll offer the 9th annual Fall Equinox Nature Hike on Pine Mountain. Words cannot describe the "sky island" forest we'll visit but this stunning sunset photo by Bryant Baker of Los Padres ForestWatch tells a thousand. |

In October, I have two special guest presenters coming up to Ojai. Renowned author and survivalist Christopher Nyerges will lead a Fall Harvesting & Survival Workshop on Saturday, October 9. Two weeks later, Professor Emeritus Jim Adams will lead a Fall Medicinal Plant Workshop on Sunday, October 24. Both events will be held outdoors and will include hands-on activities and book signings.
