Have you been hearing the buzz around the healing properties of psilocybin and want to better understand the science of how it works? Have you wondered why microdosing with psychedelics like psilocybin has gained immense popularity as a potential solution for various mental health issues — from PTSD to depression to anxiety?

To learn more about the evolving attitudes and laws surrounding these substances, please join highly respected clinical herbalist and scientist Christopher Hobbs, PhD, LAc on Wednesday, July 26, online for a free hour-long workshop beginning at 5:30 p.m. PDT  to illuminate the opportunities and promise of psilocybin mushrooms.

You can learn more and register here or click on the image above for  Microdosing With Mushrooms, a free video event with Christopher Hobbs.

SIDE NOTE: While I have yet to meet Dr. Hobbs, his free online booklet on Usnea lichen is cited in my field guide, Medicinal Herbs of California. And I I have to add that I was honored last year when the American Botanical Council chose someone of his stature to review my book for their HerbalGram magazine. Here is a link to Dr. Hobbs' review

2023 Ojai Herbal Symposium presenters Elena Rios and Dr. Elena Esparza are joining forces on Saturday, July 29, for a donation-based "Karma Clinic" at Greater Goods in Meiners Oaks on the west side of the Ojai Valley. See the article below or visit Dr. Elena on Instagram or Facebook to learn more.
Sunday, July 30
On Sunday, July 30, we're going back for a Carpinteria Salt Marsh Herb Walk one more time before Rondia and I take our August break. There's something for every nature lover there between the diversity of coastal and chaparral plants and birds and the opportunity (tides permitting) to see marine wildlife up close, like the Shovelnose Guitarfish swimming with the Corbina in John Brant's photo from a July, 2021, Herb Walk at the Salt Marsh. Click on the photo or read the article below to learn more about this easy two-hour tour.
Monday, July 31
The first of two supermoons this year will light up the sky above the Ojai Valley on Monday evening, July 31. Rondia and I will be there for a Supermoon Sunset Nature Hike, as we are almost every month. For more info and to register, click here or on the photo above of the full moon rising over Sulphur Mountain on July 2, 2023.
August is our anniversary month so Rondia and I try to take some time off. That's why there are no August events here. We'll see you in September!

Karma Clinic co-host Elena Rios
Karma Clinic is coming to Meiners Oaks on Saturday, July 29

Dr. Elena Esparza, DC and Elena Rios, Certified Nature & Forest Therapy Guide, are on the schedule for individual presentations at the Ojai Herbal Symposium in November. In the meantime, they are joining forces to offer a bilingual, donation-based clinic in the Ojai Valley on Saturday, July 29, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at Greater Goods in Meiners Oaks (114 N. Padre Juan Ave.)

Dr. Elena Esparza, DC is a community-based chiropractor, and clinical herbalist, nutritional intuitive, bioenergetic healer, chakra balancing, flower essences and aroma therapy practitioner. She will be providing simple chiropractic care, muscle and energy balancing.

Elena Rios will offer a cleansing or “limpia” with the sacred smoke of copal (dried tree resin) which is known as both a spiritual and physical medicine for balance of the mind, body, and spirit.

This is not a diagnostic clinic; it will be a simple short session. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. No registration required. First come, first served. You may have to wait for your turn.

Please contact Dr. Elena Esparza on Instagram or Facebook with any questions.

Visit the Carpinteria Salt Marsh on Sunday, July 30

This is the time of year we leave the heat of Ojai and head to the Carpinteria Salt Marsh Nature Park. Please join us in the refreshing sea air on Sunday, July 30, from 9:00  to 11:00 a.m.

In addition to a diversity of plants, the park is home to hundreds of migrating birds and other wildlife, including exotic sharks, rays and native fish. Depending on the tide level, we hope to  see some of that marine wildlife on Sunday.

Full moon rising over Sulphur Mountain on July 2 Nature Hike
Greet the first supermoon of 2023 with us on Monday, July 31
On Monday evening, July 31, from 6:15 to 8:45 p.m., Rondia and I will lead a Supermoon Sunset Nature Hike to a one-of-a-kind vista point above the Ojai Valley where we can watch the both the sunset and moonrise happen around 8:00 p.m.

A “supermoon” occurs when the moon is unusually close to the Earth, making it appear very large. According to the calendar, the moon reaches fullness on Tuesday morning, August 1, at 11:21 a.m., making Monday night the best time to see it without staying up too late.
