February 2021 HerbWalks & OjaiHerbal Newsletter
In order to maintain COVID-19 safe distancing, Professor Jim Adams and I are offering two medicinal plant walks of 12 participants each on Satiurday, February 20, rather than a large group workshop. The morning session will be at Cluff Vista Park, pictured here. You can sign up for one or both walks using a link in the Events calendar or article in the newsletter below.
The afternoon plant walk on February 20 will take place on the trail at the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy's Ventura River Preserve. See Events calendar or article below to sign up for morning, afternoon or both.
The next Full Moon Sunset Nature Hike is scheduled for Friday, February 26, weather permitting. Click on the photo above or this link to read more and sign up. Because I am limiting hikes to 12 participants to be able to maintain safe distancing, they have been filling up fast. Photo of full moon rising over Topa Topa Bluffs by Lanny Kaufer

February Full Moon Sunset Nature Hike
On Friday evening, February 26, from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m., I’ll lead a Full Moon Sunset Nature Hike above the Ojai Valley where we can watch the sunset and moonrise and also meet some edible and medicinal plant allies. The sun will begin setting at about 5:30 p.m. and the full moon will rise above the Topa Topa Bluffs at about 6:00 p.m., giving us a perfect window of time to take it all in.

Attendance will be limited to 12 pre-screened participants. Temperatures will be checked on arrival, face coverings will be required, and we will maintain 6 feet of physical distance at all times.

Sarah Karinja's "Broths and Brews"
I'm thrilled to be able to share with you this free offering from Ojai herbalist Sarah Karinja of Nomad Herbals.

Sarah combined her considerable graphic arts and herbal skills to create this booklet that originally accompanied a class she presented on "Broths & Brews" for the
Kitchen Herbal-ist series presented by Herbal Medics of California.

In addition to her version of my nettle and oatstraw tonic, the booklet includes Carol Wade's Nettles Potato Soup, a delicious bone broth recipe, instructions for preparing rice congee, how to make nut milks, and more.

Although her new website is not fully fleshed out yet, you can easily find the booklet on the home page.
Thanks to the rain and snow we've had so far, campfire restrictions in the Los Padres National forest have been lifted or reduced.
