Are you 50 years of age? Then you qualify to join classes presented by Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Cal State University, Channel Islands. The prices are very reasonable and the content is college-level for those who don't care about earning credit. Read the article below for info about my July 14 online OLLI class based on my upcoming book pictured above . Cover photo of White Sage by Jess Starwood
The June Full Moon Sunset Nature Hike was a huge success. The moon was big and beautiful, leaving the crowd transfixed for many minutes after it was time to head back down the trail. "Relatives with Roots" free for Ojai children ages 8-11
The Ojai Valley Green Coalition is offering local Ojai kids ages 8-11 an innovative new program called "Relatives with Roots: Arts & Education in the Natural World." I'm honored to be one of the presenters, along with Chumash elder Julie Tumamait-Stenslie and artist Vera Long. The program is free of charge, thanks to several grants. The final session (Session IV) consists of two consecutive Saturday classes on July 17 and July 24 from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. at Cluff Vista Park in downtown Ojai. Another cool place for an Herb Walk
By "cool place" I mean cool in every sense of the word. The National Weather Service forecast for Carpinteria City Beach on Sunday calls for "Sunny, with a high near 70." Meanwhile, Ojai on Sunday is "Sunny with a high near 94." If Carpinteria sounds good to you, please join us. Click on this link to learn more and sign up.
I'm teaching an online class on July 14 featuring plants growing on the CSUCI campus. Click on the image above to learn more.
OLLI class on July 14 based on Medicinal Herbs of California
My book, Medicinal Herbs of California: A Field Guide to Common Healing Plants is being laid out right now, due to be published by Falcon Guides on November 1, 2021. In the meantime, I'm offering a 2-hour Zoom class based on the book for Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Cal State Channel Islands Extended University. The class will feature selected plants that can be found on the grounds of the campus. To enroll, click here for the OLLI page and then scroll down to the heading "Summer 2021-Online Class Schedule."

If you can't attend the class you can still pre-order the field guide on my website at this link. For a signed copy, please purchase from my website. If you do end up buying it or its Kindle version on Amazon and you like it, please write a review. Positive reviews are extremely valuable.

Calling all lunatics!
Okay. Maybe that's a little extreme but there is something captivating about a full moon, especially when you're high above the streetlights of the village below surrounded by an iconic ridgeline at sunset. Click on the photo above or this link to learn more and sign up for the Friday, July 23, hike.
Click on the USFS logo above to visit the Ojai Ranger District webpage for the latest info on trails, campgrounds, winter road closures and more. We're going back up to the Los Padres National Forest on September 25 for the annual Fall Equinox Nature Hike. See the Herb Walks Events schedule for details.

Ojai Herbal Symposium postponed for another year to 2022
When it came time to announce the next Ojai Herbal Symposium, our venue had not yet decided if they were going to open up again in November after closing for the pandemic. That uncertainty led to a decision to postpone the Symposium once more to November 2022. I'm doing some maintenance on the website so please stay tuned to these newsletters for updates. Thanks for your patience.
