Navigating Wilderness class starts October 28
Hiking columnist and backpacking instructor James Wapotich is offering an immersive trails workshop starting in late October. This four-Saturday class combines route finding and trail navigation skills with getting to know more about the plants and animals of our region, and takes place on our local trails.

I will lead a day focused on edible and medicinal plants on Saturday, November 4, and Mike Kresky, who is an accomplished naturalist and tracker, and co-author of the field guide Animal Tracks and Scat of California, will lead a day on animal tracks and tracking.

"My Summer Working for Martin Luther King, Jr."

On October 15, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church will host me and guitarist Roger House for the multimedia presentation “My Summer Working for Martin Luther King Jr.” and a celebration of National Multicultural Diversity Day.

I will share the experiences I had in the Voting Rights Movement, including meeting and volunteering for Dr. King in the South in 1965-66. The presentation centers around a slideshow of approximately 200 slides, many of which have music embedded to represent the “soundtrack” of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960’s.

I also sing, rap, and play guitar and harmonica to add more musical flavor to the program as I share my story, including witnessing the incredible courage of the African-American people of the South who stood up for their rights at great personal risk. For this special presentation, I will be joined by Roger House, guitarist of the Jackie Lomax Band.

QR Guides in the Herb Walks Store
This year, I added more Quick Reference field guides to my online bookstore. In addition to Raptors of Western North America, shown above, I also have Birds, Wildflowers, and Butterflies of Southern California. All four of them consist of six laminated fold-out panels.

See these and all my other titles at this link.
