Hungry for Music Notes

Spring Newsletter

It’s hard to believe that Hungry for Music is 32 years old!  What started as a homeless benefit in 1992, became a nonprofit on March 4, 1994 with the intention of supporting young musicians on their musical journeys. In our history, we have distributed more than 30,000 music instruments to school, after-school music programs, and individuals in all 50 states and 37 different countries.

I greatly appreciate all the support we have received.  Our outreach would not be possible without all of it. So many individuals and groups have helped us grow, it’s impossible to remember them all.

I’m happy to report that one group that has consistently supported us more than any other is the kids performing a service project for an Eagle Scout, Silver Star, bat mitzvah, bar mitzvah, and other youth-oriented groups.  These hard-working kids have collected thousands of musical instruments and funds to help sustain our mission over the years.

I am full of gratitude, not only for these kids, but for everyone who has contributed to our very important work over the years. We could not do it without you.

During our annual Spring Cleaning Fundraising appeal, I am again asking for your support.  If you are not able to donate an instrument or make a monetary contribution, please help spread the word about our mission.  Hungry for Music is thrilled to continue placing instruments into the hands of aspiring musicians everywhere.

Thank you for your time and consideration.  Please read about our ongoing musical outreach below.

May you always find comfort in music,

Jeff Campbell

A happy keyboard recipient in Boston, Massachusetts with his mom.  We love the smiles and the message on Chandler’s hoodie. 🙂
Hungry for Music dropped off five intermediate/professional trumpets this week to the Louis Armstrong Center in Queens, New York.

The trumpets, including a Bach & Benge, will be given to deserving students in their program.

This is our third donation to the Louis Armstrong House Museum’s music education program.

Community and Business Support

Gallons of Tea for Good

We are grateful to Luzianne Tea for including Hungry for Music in their “Sip Easy Tour” this spring and summer!

To celebrate the launch of their new gallon-sized iced tea, Luzianne Tea is launching their Gallons for Good campaign.  The campaign will turn every sip into a tangible community contribution.

For every 1,000 people who sample Luzianne tea during the tour, Luzianne will donate one musical instrument to an underfunded school music program through Hungry for Music.

Luzianne will be activating at major high-traffic events, providing both a massive in-person and digital platform to share the Hungry for Music mission:

April 18: Thunder over Louisville (500k+ attendance)
May 16: Porchfest, Atlanta (90k+ attendance)
June 5-7: Taste of Charlotte (125k+ attendance)
July 3-4: Let Freedom Sing, Nashville (365k+ attendance)
Sept 26: Auburn/Vanderbilt Homecoming, Birmingham (100k+ attendance)

Hungry for Music will be donating instruments in each event location.

Thank you, Luzianne Tea!!!

Austin, Texas Community Concert

Folks had a great time at the fundraiser organized by Ralph and Patti Dowling at Sagebrush in Austin.  They collected 20 guitars and almost $1,000 in donations, including a Epiphone Les Paul!

Hungry for Music would like to thank Guy Forsyth, Guy Forsyth Band, Dennis and Chason at Sagebrush, and all of the volunteers who made this event successful. Looking forward to doing it again!
