Hungry for Music Notes
November 2018

Last year, Hungry for Music  distributed almost 1,100 music instruments to individuals and programs in the U.S. and abroad.  With our recent donation deliveries in Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey, Louisville, New Orleans, and Shreveport we have topped 1,000 instruments for a second straight year and put us in reach to top last year’s record.  We appreciate your support in helping us continue to increase our outreach and bring the gift of music to those children in need of our support.

Making Dreams Come True

"Here's my son, Rikardo. He is a 4th grader that got a Trumpet. Thanks to Hungry for Music he's able to start his music endeavor. He practices everyday & has gotten two belts from his music teacher for learning the first two songs given to him. He will also soon be working on his NYSSMA solo which he will performed in front of other music teachers in April. Thank you so much Hungry for Music, in making my son's dream come true!"

Chapters for Change

Every summer, as part of their summer reading program, Pweaukee Public Library offers a “Chapters for Change” reading challenge.  For every book or 100 page read, ten cents would be donated to charity.  This year Hungry for Music was chosen because the library’s summer theme was “Libraries Rock.”  The Pewaukee kids read over 17,000 books, over 3,500 more than the previous year, and total of $1,708.70 was raised for Hungry for Music.

Honoring the life of
Kenneth Kaleta
(1933-2017)

When Kim and Erin lost their father last year, they needed to find a home for his musical instrument collection. Their dad, Ken Kaleta, was a Korean War veteran who grew up on the big bands of the 1940’s.  After leaving the Marines, Ken became a lithographer and continued to

develop his deep love for music and becoming proficient on a variety of instruments including piano, trumpet, trombone, violin, and guitar.

We know his musical spirit will carry on with these instrument donations.  Per his daughter’s request, some his instruments were used to provide a music program in Dominican Republic with guitars.

Please help us continue to expand our mission.

The MusicLink Foundation reaches out to low income families by linking these students with professional music teachers willing to reduce their fee to make the lessons more affordable for the child.

We are happy to work with MusicLink Foundation to bring instruments to some of their students.

Kids Helping Kids

Jonah Berson of Clarksville, Maryland completed a successful Bar Mitzvah service project this past summer.  He wanted to help an organization that dealt with music and helping children around the world.  He found Hungry for Music.  Jonah used his artistic talents and designed mousepads, some with musical instruments on them,  and sold them to raise money.   He collected instruments and accessories and cash donations surpassing $600. He really was excited to help others enjoy music the way he does.

Another Eagle Scout Soars

Cole Walker of Troop 30 in West Grove, Pennsylvania collected
225 music instrument/accessories for his recent Eagle Scout Service Project
in support of Hungry for Music.

We will assess, repair, and distribute to children in need.
Thank you for your awesome effort, Cole!

“Thank you so much to each of you who donated an instrument, made a financial contribution, volunteered your time and/or helped spread the word about my project. Your support made my Eagle Scout project more successful than I ever dreamed it could be!”  ~Cole Walker
