Dear Parents of Grades 9 – 12 Students,
This year we are embarking on a new program on Character Development. The program aims to help students from the different grade levels to develop positive relationships amongst themselves, a matter that would also reflect positively on their academic performance.
The framework around which this project is designed emphasises a specific virtue every month as per the following:
September: Respect February: Love
October: Responsibility MarchWisdom
November: Compassion AprilCourage
Dec/Jan: Commitment May Health
These virtues will be discussed with students in a structured manner during homeroom sessions, related service-learning activities and, whenever possible, through regular classes.
A primary part of the project is the reorganization of our homeroom sessions into a
House System, in which each homeroom will consist of students from all four grade levels in the Secondary School (G9 to G12). This arrangement aims to:
-
provide opportunities for mentorship from elder students to the younger students.
-
break down barriers between students in the different grade levels.
-
provide opportunities for leadership within the school - students from each house will be elected as House Captains and are to be given certain responsibilities as such, etc.
As we welcome any input that you may have on our program, we acknowledge that this task needs parental support and involvement. As such, we would like to have parental representation in the committee.
Should you be interested in joining the committee, please indicate your interest below.
We look forward to having you joining us in this worthwhile effort.
Kind regards,
IKNS Character Development Committee
