Jay's story

In our latest story of Independent Lives, we spoke to Jay.

Jay is a 36-year-old man living in East Sussex with cystic fibrosis. Despite the challenges posed by his condition, Jay leads an active and engaging life, supported by his personal assistant, Dawn, through a Direct Payment facilitated by Independent Lives.

A new plan for health and social care: ADASS's proposal

In our latest blog article, our comms volunteer Sarah explores the issues that are facing the UK's health and social care system following the recent change in government. Sarah also looks at the plan proposed by ADASS (Association of Directors of Adult Social Services) to address these issues.

The plan focuses on three key areas: enhancing the social care workforce, supporting unpaid carers and providing early support closer to home.

A new study is looking into how effective Direct Payments are for individuals in Black and Minority Ethnic communities

Participants will be interviewed three times over a 12-month period. The first interview will last up to two hours, with subsequent interviews lasting an hour. Interviews will take place virtually or over the phone, but face-to-face will be considered if this is preferred.

You’ll receive a shopping voucher after each interview as a token of appreciation.

The study is looking for individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • From Black or Minority Ethnic communities
  • Adults aged 18 or over, preferably over the age of 65
  • Have been using Direct Payments for over a year
  • Can speak English or Hindi.
