Thank you to our 5K inflatable fun runners

We want to give a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the 5K Inflatable fun run on 2 September. They braved the summer sun and completed a change 5-kilometre race bouncing, running, ducking, and diving over a range of imposing inflatable obstacles.

Despite train strikes and illness, the Independent Lives team raised nearly £900 between them which is amazing work and testament to people’s desire to see Independent Lives vision become a reality for all.

The team included our very own staff members Emma and Cherry along with members of their family and the family of our very own fundraising officer Cara.

We were also joined by staff from Star Community Housing who had already done great work fundraising for our Drop 360 event earlier in the Summer.

All the funds we raise will go towards providing community support to disabled people and their carers.

If you'd like to contribute to our JustGiving page for the event, you can do so at the link below.

Leanne's story

Our communications officer Gareth recently spoke to Leanne, who has been using Independent Lives services since 2022. This is her story.

Leanne has been using Independent Lives services since 2022. She lives in Crawley with her daughter.

"Life has been a struggle for us for a long time. Aside from living with my impairments, my daughter and I escaped domestic abuse and lived in one room for three years. When we arrived in Sussex, we didn’t know anyone, so my daughter was assessed to be my carer while support was put in place for me. it’s taken a lot for us to get where we are now."
