Why The Italian Lifestyle Has Got It Right
After working with Italians in Italy now for a few years, I cannot help but be jealous of their lifestyle. The Western habits of a rushed daily life, kids activities and all the other stresses take over and become cumbersome. I consider the values of the Italian people in regard to food, culture and socializing as some of the best in the world and we could benefit greatly from them in the US in terms of mental health, obesity, stress reduction and just overall quality of life and enjoyment of it.
Italian people are constantly surrounded by family. neighbors and friends; rarely eat alone and if it is time for a coffee then one simply stops to enjoy it. Lunch is one of the most important meals of the day and a sandwich simply will not do. It has to be pasta and salad and never ever hurried. Food is almost the sacred religion in Italy, and the Italians speak with a reverence about it no matter what age.
So with Springtime upon us, now is a perfect time to try to adapt even a small bit of the Italian lifestyle into your life. Enjoy dining al fresco with friends or family with some fresh healthy seasonal foods and a glass of wine. Finding a passion for life and more simplicity goes a long way in a benefiting a healthy lifestyle.
