Monthly Snatra Pooja
Sunday, Feb 11 - 10:30 AM
Jain Center
Snatra pooja is done every 2nd Sunday of the month starting at 10.30 AM followed by a potluck lunch.
for any questions
- Snatra pooja illustrates the celebration of two of the auspicious (out of five) events (Kalyanaks) occurring in the last life of Tirthankar Bhagwan.
- This Puja and celebration is for all Tirthankaras and not specific to any particular one.
- Two Kalyanaks narrated in this Puja are Chyavan (conception) and Janma (birth) of Tirthankar. After this life the soul of Tirthankar reaches its climax and achieves liberation from life and death cycle (attains Moksha).
- This Puja recital explains the effect of Bhagawan’s birth on the whole universe, narrates how glorious the occasion was and how much joys were shared by all the living souls including all heavenly souls.
- Puja in the end includes Ashta Prakari Puja and wishes Shanti (peace) for all living beings and rejoices the event by performing Aarti, Mangal Divo, Shanti Kalash and Chaitya Vandan.
Sponsors are always welcome
Ghee boli for Aarti, Mangal Divo and Shanti Kalash.
However, If we have sponsors for the Pooja then
Shanti Kalash Labh is given to sponsor family.
Ghee boli is still done for Aarti & Mangal Divo

Presidential Volunteer Service Award
Deadline For 2023 Hours - February 16, 2024
Volunteers are worth their weight in gold. They share their time and talents without any compensation, so it's crucial to acknowledge their contributions and let them know they are valued. They are critical to the success of our Sangh, so we want to make sure that we take the time to thank them for their contributions and continued commitment to our Sangh!
All JSMW members including current elected or
appointed officials can apply.
Jain Society of Metropolitan Washington (JSMW) is a certifying organization and has been granted the authority to administer President’s Voluntary Service Awards to our volunteers.
The President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) recognizes, celebrates and holds up as role models Americans making a positive impact as engaged and deeply committed volunteers.
The Award enables community organizations – like JSMW – to amplify their gratitude by joining with the President of the United States to thank their most dedicated volunteers.
Various award categories include the official PVSA pin, medallion, or coin; a personalized certificate of achievement; a congratulatory letter from the President of the United States; or a combination of all the above.
Please use this link - President Volunteer Service Awards to submit your hours. We will ensure that your hours are entered in the PVSA system.
You can visit https://presidentialserviceawards.gov/ for more details about this system or to get information on various milestones.
