Thrilling News on our Sangh's 34th Anniversary
We are overjoyed to share a momentous development in the journey toward our new temple's completion. The much-awaited Bhagwaan Pratimajis for the upcoming temple are soon to make their journey from India to our shores.

While the new temple building itself is not yet fully prepared to embrace these sacred embodiments, we are delighted to inform you that the Sangh has made the momentous decision to welcome Pratimajis to our current temple.

This decision marks a significant milestone, underscoring our unwavering dedication to realizing our dreams. Please stay tuned for more details as we set up the detailed plans.

Support Needed for Special Jain Meals Distribution
As Paryushan and Daslakshan Parv approach, we're excited to continue our tradition of providing special Jain meals to college students, including those at UMD and UMBC. At GBM, we saw a generous fundraising effort, covering about half the required 18 days' funds. To sustain this tradition, we ask for your help. Each day costs $750, but any amount you can give matters.

Please send a note to treasurer@jainsocietydc.org or WhatsApp Tusharbhai Shah at (301) 503-3450 to pledge any donation.

Sangh Celebrates JAINA Convention Achievements and Picnic
The Society's Events Committee orchestrated a splendid post-GBM picnic. Immediately after the General Body Meeting, the gathering began celebrating and recognizing our members who triumphed at the 22nd JAINA Convention. Our members lent their expertise to diverse Convention tasks, from committee leadership to volunteering. A special recognition followed, dedicated to the accomplished JAB kids and their devoted supporters in their journey.

The picnic started with something special – we raised the Indian flag to celebrate India's Independence Day, which was on August 15th. The senior most members of our group hoisted the flag to the tune of the Indian national anthem. While everyone enjoyed some snacks, the festive spirit continued with a series of spirited Indian patriotic songs. A specially crafted JSMW Bingo game added an element of fun. The event concluded with a delicious dinner.

  • Snatra pooja illustrates the celebration of two of the auspicious (out of five) events (Kalyanaks) occurring in the last life of Tirthankar Bhagwan.
  • This Puja and celebration is for all Tirthankaras and not specific to any particular one.
  • Two Kalyanaks narrated in this Puja are Chyavan (conception) and Janma (birth) of Tirthankar. After this life the soul of Tirthankar reaches its climax and achieves liberation from life and death cycle (attains Moksha).
  • This Puja recital explains the effect of Bhagawan’s birth on the whole universe, narrates how glorious the occasion was and how much joys were shared by all the living souls including all heavenly souls.
  • Puja in the end includes Ashta Prakari Puja and wishes Shanti (peace) for all living beings and rejoices the event by performing Aarti, Mangal Divo, Shanti Kalash and Chaitya Vandan.
