2023 MJK Participation Form - Due 12/18

What is MJK?  Mahavir Janma Kalyanak (MJK) is JSMW's annual celebration of Lord Mahavir's birth.  Traditionally, most Pathshala classes prepare a stage show item which may include a dance or skit.  In addition to the stage show program, JSMW sponsors a swamivatsalya meal for all members to enjoy.

When is it? 2023 MJK is on April 4th but most counties are on Spring Break during that time.  Therefore, JSMW is tentatively planning to have MJK celebration at the end of March which is nearly a month before when it has been in past years.

MJK is open to all JSMW members and we encourage members to create groups (minimum 4 people) with their family and friends and participate in this joyous event.....sing a song, do a dance, anything to show your festive spirit.

Please complete your participation form by Dec 18th by clicking here. Only one form is required per performance group.

If you have questions/comments, please feel free to reach out to MJK team at MJK@JainSocietyDC.org

Maun Agiyaras Parva
Saturday, December 03

We're all living very busy schedules balancing work, home, kids activites, social engagements and much more.....we often struggle with finding time for ourselves.

Well this struggle is not a new one.  In fact, Lord Krishna had similar time struggles and Neminath Bhagwan gave him some great advice.
  • Lord Krishna:  Being a King with many responsibilities of the kingdom, how can I continuously do my religious rites (Dharma)? Please tell me a prominent day in the whole year on which one can take less vows but achieve maximum results?”
  • Neminath Bhagwan: If you have a wish of this kind, then on the 11th day (Ekadashi) of the bright half of Magshirsh month (Magshar Sud 11) your efforts will have more value because we celebrate 150 kalyanaks on this day.
Dec 3rd, is Maun Ekadashi when we too can maximize our good deeds.  It is said a person who worships this day of Ekadashi with all the rites and rituals every year for a period of 11 years and 11 months is said to achieve salvation. Please take a moment on 12/3 and do something for your soul (taap, vow).  The daily hussle will still be there the next day.  To view the whole story and to share with your kids, please click here.

Similar to the way Voter Registration Days work to increase voting through a concerted effort in a short period of time,   All of Us is making a push to engage our community. And we need more South Asian representation in health research! When you join the   All of Us Research Program and share your story, you are helping create one of the largest, most diverse health databases of its kind. Patrice will share more about the program including how you can receive health and DNA information back and make a change in the future of health!

Help JSMW - You shop, Amazon gives!

We are in the process of building a brand new temple over the next few years. We will need all the funding we can get to support the construction costs and make this project a grand success.

If you like to shop on Amazon, JSMW has registered with AmazonSmile where 0.5% of your shopping expenses get donated to the JSMW temple fund! This is a great way to support the new temple effort.

Every little bit will make a big difference as we progress towards temple construction. Thank you for the support!!
