Summer Pathshala Email
Jai Jinendra! Hope you are enjoying summer. Below are few reminders about upcoming Pathshala related summer events.
JAB Competition: Best of luck to our Junior and Senior JAB teams!! Our teams will be competing at the upcoming 19th Biennial JAINA convention.

7/15 - Summer Essay Competition Reminder: We hope you take part in JSMW's 4th consecutive summer essay compeition. Please choose the appropriate topic based on the student's completed 2016-2017 enrolled class.
  • Topic #1 for B1, B2, C1, C2: Explain how having the good fortune to be raised in this country and attending Pathshala has enabled you to be a better practicing Jain. (Lead is Keyuri Rajani)
  • Topic #2 for D, E, G: Discuss the pros and cons of social media in today's world and how it affects you as a Jain. (Lead is Vaishali Chedda)
Timeline:
  • Submission Date: July 15th 2017 @ 12 o’clock midnight by email only

  • Winner Announcement Date: Paryushan 2017 (August)


Guidelines:

  • Limit your essay to 1500 words (12pt font, 1.5 line spacing)

  • Submit a word document electronically to JSMWSummerEssay@JainSocietyDC.org

    • Email Subject: JSMW Summer Essay - ClassX [Enter your class, e.g. B1, B2, C1, C2, D, E, G]

    • Email Message: Provide the following message within your email to verify the essay has been written by you. On my honor, I attest that this essay is entirely written by me in my own words.

  • Title your Essay: FullName_Topic# (ex: JoeSmith_Topic1 or JoeSmith_Topic2)

  • Be sure to receive a confirmation email from JSMWSummerEssay@JainsocietyDC.org. If you do not receive a confirmation email, contact your topic lead.


7/16 - Summer JYOC Walkathon: Join us on Sunday, July 16th to participate in JSMW's Walkathon and Picnic! The event will be held from 10AM to 4PM at Lake Fairfax park, the same venue as last year. From 10AM-1PM, you will have the opportunity to raise money for pathshala rooms in our new temple by walking as many steps as you can. Pledges will be made through the form that is attached below. After the walkathon, we will have lunch and various activities and games planned for attendees. General admission is $10 per person.


2-Step Registration:

  1. Visit https://jsmw.org/2017picnic/ and fill out the RSVP form. Payments can be completed online or via check.

  2. Print and complete the walkathon pledge form by contacting family, friends, and neighbors. Remember to bring this form to the event so we can record your donations!

2017-2018 Pathshala:
Class dates will not be finalized until end of August. We plan to have the first two classes on Sept 10th and then immediately following on Sept 17th. For Oct, Nov, Dec, we plan to have Pathshala on every 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sunday.

In addition, teachers and students will receive "Welcome Back to Pathshala" emails in August informing them of their classroom location, teacher assignments, and other details.
